Play til get stuck then use just the code needed to get past that pointOriginally posted by LoudMusic
If a game has built in cheat codes, do you use them? Or do you enjoy the game without them? Or do you use them only when you're in a tough spot? Or do you finish the game first, then go back and use all the codes to play around?

Well put there fellow gamer buddyOriginally posted by space
It depends on the the game/time frame.
I'll cheat if i have too, like when i borrowed Getaway from work. I needed to finish that quickly so i knew the story, the weapons, blah blah blah. so i cheated on that one.
If i bought the game, and i'm stuck and it will take like 20 hours to get unstuck, then i'll cheat (Like with my Suikoden III save, i sold everything everybody had at the begining of the game, so none of my characters have any items/armor/weapons, And to raise the money it will take a good 15 hours to get the money to buy everything for everyone)
Now RPG's are another story. On my PSX, i'd use the gameshark to blow through the story of the game, then immediatly play it again without cheats, to find everything there is to find. Then i'd plow through the the game again without cheats to make sure i didnt miss everything. Sadly I cant do that on the newer systems because the gamesharks just ain't made like they used to be.
Then there are some cases where cheating actually improves the gameplay. Take Goldeneye64 for instance. when that game came out everybody played it. then you played it with all the built in cheats (big head mode, all guns, paintball). That even got boring after awhile. If you had a gameshark you could make your own codes. Me and my friends made up something like 400 or so different codes. Cheating there greatly improved the gameplay for me.
Whatever works for you, saves you that expense... Frankly I won't play a game if cheats aren't avail.. There is no fun in playing a game only to get to a point an can not go further...Originally posted by miata13B
never tried Dead to Rights, I mainly stay around racing games. The most recent I tried though that is none racing is Tenchu and got pretty far on it, I am cureently stuck on the second to last stage and it got annoying so I put it down for a while. Now I have cheated in the past, but lately I have the info in front of me, but I haven't really used it yet.
Now do you rent games to test them out, or just read reviews, check out cheats and then decide?Originally posted by Masterblaster

I rent an game am interested in, to see if its worth buying, an secondly if that games will stand up to repeat play, justifing the expense of buying it for $50.00 plusOriginally posted by miata13B

Good question LoudMusic. I've been having alot of experience with cheaters recently.
I'm a bit torn on this matter to tell you the truth. I think that there are some instances where "cheating" is useful. I don't know if you can really call it cheating, but even in GT3 where you can build hybrid vehicles or create your own garage using the MK program. I don't mind that at all and I don't really call it cheating unless someone is trying to use a hybrid in a racing challenge.
On the other hand, I've been playing Socom US Navy Seals online for the PS2. There are a ton of cheats and glitches in that game. That in my mind is true cheating. It tends to make the game not as fun or interesting when your in a room with a cheater. Someone that can hide in the walls or whatever it may be. It's gotten a bit out of hand. But now there is a popular uprising against the cheaters in that game where teams will vote off cheaters. Works well in most cases.
All in all I don't like cheating. I like to be able to see how far or how good I can get at the game by using my own skill. For example there is a rating system in Socom. I could easily load up some codes in the GS and widdle my ranking down into lower numbers, but I wouldn't feel as accomplished as I would have if I just played using my own skill.

Unless of course you're in competition. Then cheating is verboten, completely unacceptable, rotten, lousy, bad. I'm not talking about game mods, I'm talking about unfair advantage.
