Over 32 weeks we've always had the "no NOS" rule sticked somewhere in the race rules. Some people wish to try at least one race where NOS would be accepted.

There are many restrictions anyway :
  • there is no NOS in Arcade mode ;
  • the use of NOS being limited to a certain duration, it lasts only 1 or 2 laps and this makes it hard to use in a free run session.
That leaves only the Family Cup option.

Any suggestion or comment is welcome.

yes, NOS is still more realistic than magically reducing the weight or increasing the power by %

its in GT, and i don´t know why we wouldn´t use it. its different, its a challenge, and used in a family cup would be a good idea to keep us from restarting everytime...

we should run a NOS week in a tuner theme, with a tuner car... maybe that HPA golf, or a mitsu eclipse... or a toyota supra, don´t know the car, but really, really can´t understand why some guys are so against this.

yes, i´m already waiting 👍

edit -

i was wandering, who forbid this? why this particular part was forbidden? of all the tuning involved in the GT series, NOS is not the most unrealistic.

anyway, if the game features, then i´m all for it... just i think fot this race we shouldn´t use a race car, since those don´t have NOS in real life :)

the thing about NOS, it becomes a strategy.

You need to know where to hit it, for it to be the most effective.

Has anyone concidered any of the races in the halls?

Pick a race, in say one of the professional hall series races, then set a car that is VASTLY overmatched as standard.

Allow ALL upgrades, but instead of race times use 'A-spec' points.

Set the condition of having to win the race, no contact etc, etc.

But the aim is to get the highest a-spec points award.

In the event of a tie in points then time can still be used to judge final positions.

This way we get to use NOS, in a competative race, AND it adds the twist that the LESS up-grading you do the better the result!

Maybe make it a two week race as well, that way many combinations of upgrades can be tried.

Just my thoughts,

And I agree with Dion, it is about strategy. When and where to use it, AND how to set it up too. You can adjust the 'release-pressure' to give either more power increase or longer duration at lower pressure.

It's all good!

nitro is for drag racing.
i find it completly insulting that its even in a GT game.
but if other people want to use it... i'm not against sitting out a week.
(be nice if we allowed wings once in a while though... i have no quams with addign downforce)

Watson, 👍

Regarding NOS...
I sorta feel like watson on this one in that I don't think NOS should have been added to the GT series.

However, just like when I was the race organizer for the WRS, I still have feelings that everything should be explored if there is even one person looking to race something (such as my use of sim tires back in the day).

So, NOS should get one week in the WRS if you ask me.
I don't like it and I feel like it should be done properly, however, there should be atleast an experimental week of using NOS.

My only real suggestion for that week's race...

Use a low torque engine!

Something like a 2.0L engine out of japan.
Maybe a S2000?
Or an Evo as to take advantage of the 4WD. 👍

In any case, good luck with the decisions.
The way I figure it, NOS can't be any worse for some of us than N tires can be for others. :sly:

I always saw the NOS option as PD's attempt to entice more of the fanboyz into GT4. :dopey: I think it's a bit gimmicky.

But I agree with Kent, Dion and Neil. In the correct context it could be used as another strategy tool. Kind of like push-to-pass in Champ Car. So I vote okey dokey for at least one race.

I really like Neil's idea of the A-spec points race. 👍
You could actually take it a step further Neil. Make the a-spec points as a sort of handicap so that anyone in any division would have a chance to win a week outright. 👍

For example you could specify:

Div.1 race must be 200+ point race.
Div.2 race must be 100+ point race.
Div.3 race must be 50+ point race.

These numbers are just pulled out of the air, and it would take a lot of testing to set it up fairly, but it's an interesting concept.......IMO of course. :)

Strange that you mention it this week.
In my plans, week 32 was a 4-lapper at Seattle from the Corvette Meeting until last week. I was testing with a Z06, but this car was like on rails and the IROC suits Seattle much better IMO. I also found that 4 laps at Seattle would have been too much, so I changed for a hotlap.
But I'm definitely exploring the halls to find good combos.

For the points however, I think the WRS has to stay based on a hotlap time or a race time, and I don't like much the idea to use A-spec points to rank racers.

The only downside to NOS is that we'd have to quit and restart EVERY lap to refill the bottle. Too much of a PITA for me...

A-Spec points racing sounds fun though! Or how about $$ limited racing? Say start with $500,000 and buy a new car and mod it and race?

EDIT: Ooops, I didn't see the reference to Family Cup. DUH! Might be fun, but I still say no, for now...

Regardless of how well it fits within a 'racing' environment...we gotta see how it effects the overall placings???, It'd be awesome...I say NOS away!

Personally think NOS has no place in GT or WRS, but I wouldn't sit out because of it.Whatever the majority wants. We still live in a Democracy, don't we, unless you live in the U.S.. Here we live in a wasteland of Republican values (hahaha) and religious fanatics..... Sorry I wandered a bit, if everyone else want's NOS, let's do it.

I'd vote yes IF:

It was a race on Test track, Highspeed Ring or Super Speedway and you had to use it in conjunction with slipstreaming or something.

BUT:

If it's just a normal Family Cup race I really wouldn't like it because we either have A) The AI on -10 so we pass them all straight away so the race is pretty much a hotlap but longer. or B) The AI just gets in your way the WHOLE RACE.

I see NOS as any other performance upgrade, but one that should be used sparingly, and in situations where it adds a different dimension to a race. Adding NOS to a Minolta is pretty pointless, but something low horsepower could be a new challenge 👍

I voted no even after my post.

Its hard enough to nail all the corners in a lap, let alone knowing when to nos and when not to.

Nos would only be good for head to head racing, real time.

It doesnt have a place for what we do in WRS.

that´s the point, heck i even saw one car using NOS one time, so there´s no reason to deny it... (IMO)

i know its a strategic thing, nad that makes it even more fun... knowing when to use it and with which pressure

Eclipse with NOS 👍
Supra with NOS 👍
HPA Golf R32 with NOS 👍 👍

Actually would it be possible to do a drag race for a WRS event (GT40?)? Then NoS would have a viable use. Otherwise Nos would not really have a viable use except for multi lap races.

For one week. I would be in on it. Its new and I have yet to use NOS in GT4, never even purchased it. But I"m with Francisco (sp? - fasj) on this one, we should do a fast and the furious week where we have to buy a tuner car and 'rice it up' that would be fun for a change and just for 1 week. IMHD1O of course.

Think ur right Fry's, it may have to be a multilapper as some tracks may only have one spot to use your NOS. And if it was 1 lap we might only use like 30% of it...whats the point right?

As I say in post #1, NOS will last 1 or 2 laps maximum (if you use it all the way through I mean), and once you've emptied your tank, if you race in free run you have to leave the session and restart it.
It sounds better to take advantage of this limited duration in a multilapper.
I'm looking for a car and track where NOS would really bring something extra.

what he said,

For NOS to bring someting extra u may consider high speed ring? Or a track with a long straight, like Seoul or Tokyo. I dunno just tossin out ideas.

jump_ace

^^ Feel free to toss out any idea. That's the very reason why I posted this poll.
Some ideas posted here were already being tested by me, some others are interesting and I'll take a closer look...
Keep on thinking.

i think a week on testtrack, with other cars would be good. Like the mission in the mission hall, 3 laps, its a tough mission, and all comes down to strategy. I think we should have a race, where the main focus is to get in peoples slipstreams, and using nos at just the right time to make it count. If we had a week on a more complex track with nos, for example, le sarthe, or cote d'azur then it would come down to racing skill, just like any other week. I think strategy should be the main factor of who wins, not who can take a corner fastest like norm.
it would make a nice change.

Yep.
Instead of running week 32, I did some testing, and I finally found (after 3 or 4 hours) a nice combo that even people who voted 'No' would appreciate. Well, at least I voted 'No' and I find it pretty good.
The problem is that it's tougher than I first expected. :guilty:
Well, I'll post it sooner or later anyway, we'll see how it is appreciated. :mischievous:

Hey Cyril, I would like to just say that I appreciate you 'sticking your neck out' in asking some questions about what races to run like rally and nos. The usual response is no, but as we can see not EVERYONE is that way and u TRY to accomidate everyone as best u can. Great job taking over dude. Top Notch work!

jump_ace

This is all quite a shock to me... being an American, i'm not really used to democracy.

Great Job Cyril indeed.

Your polls are great, and that shows you are very serious about WRS and your doing your best to provide races that will make everyone happy 👍

I love it when i see people make suggestions, then they are used in the next week or so! 👍

Ive had it happen a few times to me also 👍

Great Job 👍
