Edit: hard tyres worked like a charm, coupled with a small raise in power to match the harder compound.

Original post:

Following the 1.20 update, my MR2 has been heavily nerfed for the race.

Before, I could comfortably do the whole race on one set of mediums, and despite obvious wear, it was still decently driveable.

Now, it's the exact same up until the rear tires are 100% red. Just before they turned fully red, the grip was still there. It almost feels like a puncture once they wear. So now, I'm forced to make a pitstop unless I can tame the wear. The whole secret of winning was to not pit in this case, and now that I have to, it's a big time loss.

The tire wear changes have also been noted to make the Bathurst mission near impossible now. Oh, and with the changes to mechanical damage, even the tiniest of scratches on the walls will cause you that temporary damage.

They increased the tyre multiplier for the event.

Also don't touch walls. If you wouldn't tap a wall at 60mph in real life, I don't see why GT should let you get away scot-free.

I'm sure you're happy to continue using the Alpine?
Nope.

You can, however, find evidence of me using the Huracan.

Back in the normal world, I did this in a Huracan. Fitted a Wing and sport mediums and brought the power down to fit the PP. Put fuel on 4 or 5 the whole way and didn't pit.

Coming out the final hairpin, I had the RX7 right behind me. I had 0.2 of a lap of fuel left, so I went all in and whacked it up to 1. Ran out of fuel 30 metres short.

No fuel. Finish line there. RX7 there.

Won by 0.055!

After my massive 0.055 second win last time, I tried this again.

Smashed it! 0.103 this time!
I find my usual tactic is not to hit the wall, and if my tyres were wearing out, I'd change them to slightly harder ones.

Ok........ so why is there a different set of rules for the AI then ? They don't get damage or penalties no matter what idiot moves they do

The AI have their own rules. That's why they like to ram you and make your life difficult sometimes.

In all seriousness though, this was super annoying in the Daytona Gr. 1 race where you have to be a well-behaved boy with track limits exiting the chicane but the AI can screw around.

The Bathurst mission is actually pretty easy once you know the AI will be really slow on the last lap or two, so all you have to do is drive conservatively to save the tyres, and you'll easily beat the AI at the end. You don't need to try to catch the lead AI in the early laps.

As for the Tokyo race, it was easy enough to no-stop with this Cayman setup:
The tyres were fine all the way to the end.

I can't speak for penalties, and not for Tokyo specifically as I don't use that event to grind - but I thought the AI do get damage?

I've definitely had cars in my custom races have accidents and have to pit for damage, especially notable because they can't drive properly and are slow as anything until they pit. I suppose that could be disabled for Tokyo, wouldn't be PD's weirdest decision.

Also, one thing I didn't mention is I'm playing on the hardest difficulty. Obviously I could always turn it down to normal if I struggle with something but that's not how I do things :sly:

I Have put them into the wall's a couple of times to see what happens........ nada, nothing. I Follow them around and they carry on as usual with no damage or slower lap times.

It seems that the more radical the suspension changes, the faster the tires wear.

With that said, may I recommend the 2006 Ford GT. Now that it is under 600 PP stock, a bone-stock example, even in my hands, will get down to the 2:11s on the later laps, and it only needs fuel on lap 9 while running FM1. At 27:20 for the whole race, it is overkill for the normal difficulty.

Thank god the tires lasted. But although my problem has been solved, I can imagine someone struggling with another car that can barely win the race.

I must also say, I thought the Hards would be no good either, and prior to 1.20, the car handled with mediums almost exactly as it does with hards now! So before the car would've been a lot less comfortable to drive. The increased tire wear also made me think hards would melt. But nah, would've been good for a couple more laps.

So while I appreciate the gesture to help, Eggstor and breeminator, I shall carry on using my beloved.
