Planned for the X360 (and PS3 supposedly), Genki is returning for the next big TXR sequel, and I KNOW many of you are amazed.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer [Working Title]

Car List:
~Toyota Supra
~Mazda RX-7 (FD3S)
~Nissan Skyline GT-R R32
~Subaru Impreza

IGN
Following this announcement, Genki took the stage to proclaim that Tokyo Xtreme Racer is coming to Xbox 360. The video shown was real time and wowed the audience with a recreation of nighttime Tokyo and a smoking hot race girl.

Genki didn't have any representatives appear in person at Microsoft's Japanese Xbox Summit today. Intead, the publisher/developer used a pre-recorded video message to announce a next generation version of Shutoko Battle, also known as Tokyo Xtreme Racer in America.

No details were provided on the content of the game, but the Genki representative did make it clear that we can expect the same type of battle-based racing that has made the series famous. The game will feature network support, although it's unclear what form this will take.
The Tokyo Xtreme series is known for its reality, but for someone who lives in Tokyo, looking at the game running on Xbox 360 is definitely a sight. Genki was apparently able to render details down to the asphalt of the road. The game also seems to include a hot racing babe, rendered nicely in all the right areas.

Download the trailer for yourself and, as you watch, keep in mind that what you're seeing looks so close to the real thing, Tokyo residents may end up doing a double take. It's amazing to see how much Genki's recreation of Tokyo's highway system has progressed since the series first debuted on Dreamcast just a few years ago.

Stay Tuned!

Why does it look like a PS2 game? Where are all of those fancy 360 pixel shaders and HDR lighting?

Yeah, it will look much better on PS3.

This TXR doesn't look impressive at all, no matter what stage of development it is at. Xbox 360 games shouldn't look like first-gen PS2 titles. I really loved TXR0 for PS2 and would love to see this game on PS3, because clearly, Xbox 360 can't deliver the goods.

These pics were JUST released.

You can't expect every new thing that comes out for the next systems to look like the other games immediately, espcially when its a WIP. Work In Progress which means it can change any time.

If the game is still a "Work in Progress", then don't release screenshots until the game is finalized. If this is what the crop of Japanese 360 games will look like, then Microsoft has truly lost Japan.

Tetris, Bomberman, Every Party, yeah...

Yeah you dont want to kill interest before the game even gets off(madden 06). PGR2 never changed one bit grapically from the first pics shown. All the bady modeled cars and horrible wheel blur effect made it into the final game with the out of place white specular highlights on the cars that killed the realism. There is HDR in the first pics though.

hmm, not impressed. but lookin' forward to see if it gets any better. Genki + games dont mix imo.
but much better than a PS2 game. Lots of haters in here

How anyone can say that looks like a first-gen PS2 titles is beyond me... as first gen-PS2 titles looked like slightly higher resolution PS1 games...

There is obviously some of the XB 360s lighting in there on all the sky scrapers etc... true the graphics aren't fantastic but then Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 on the PS2 hardly looked amazing (even for a PS2). TXR3 made a nice change, wonder if they will actually release it in europe this time?

On another note all the PS fanboyism in the Xbox forum is really starting to get old. Its amazing how critical people can be of another system when they've not likely to have played or even seen them in real time that isn't a video which has been compressed massively in a tiny little window on someones handycam  My stance is at the moment I don't see much reason to buy either.

If I am going to spend $400 on a console, it better make the previous generation console look barbaric. Genki better get their act together.

While I agree with many of your other points, this just humors me....slightly higher resolution PS1 games? I'm not sure we are playing the same console, lol.

While PS2 wasn't great, it's first gen surely didn't look like "slightly higher resolution PS1 games".

As for the game, it doesn't look bad, many of you are just doing anything you can, and it's rediculous, for the last 5 years most of you spouted about how visuals don't matter etc etc on PS2, now you are bashing the 360...it's redundant and retarded.

Well, I mean. For the last 5 years, I've been saying graphics don't matter, in honesty. And now, PS3 looks great, I still believe that visuals don't matter, I believe in the series of games, but I don't think that just because it looks good, makes it good.

And XB360 has some great titles I'm excited about (DOA, GoW, Ghost Recon, and kameo). But these titles aren't all AMAZINGLY great, but I'm still EXCITED about them beacuse the gameplay will be great...yet....people are being stupid.

I just dislike the "flip floppers".

Well some of the the first gen PS2 games were pretty crap looking as Viper Zero kindly posted, to me that doesn't look a great deal better than a PS1 game. The only really obvious difference is better view distance.

TXR Sequel certaintly looks alot better in comparison but I agree it should really look better.

T5-R, it must have been a very long time since you've seen a ps1 game to say PS2 games looked like high res PS1 games. Look at the best ps1 has to offer VS the absolute worse the PS2 has to offer. Tekken TT was galaxies better than Tekken 3. Ridgie Racer V Look far beyone R4. I still play PS1 games and very clear no ps2 game looks like a ps1 game.

And no code that TXR XB360 "pic" does not look better than GT4 or Forza. A different pic may show more detail and then it could but going by the pics only- no it doesnt look better

I dont bash hardware just software.

I haven't even gone through Genre only. These are series specific to show you the large differences int he same games w/the same developers. If I even BEGIN to open it to genere's instead of series...the difference will be MUCH more.

Point is, you're wrong, PS2, even early on, was not simply "higher resolution PS1 games" in any way shape or forum, you do, however, display a bias very often..

Holy smokes yall are a bunch of whiners... I posted this on a car forum I'm a member of and instead of *****ing about the graphics they got excited because of THE GAME, not what it looks like. They talked about how the loved the other TXR games and they can't wait to play this one, instead of sitting here and complaining about how it looks. It's gonna be a fun game, quit the moaning and have some fun playing it (when it comes out, duh)!

Graphics do matter when it comes to new systems with ungodly power :). It has nothing to do with the hardware or who makes it.

I can't wait for the sequel to come! I now have 3 reasons to buy a pS3!!!

I've played both TXR2 & TXR3 i think they we're quite fun to play, somehow racing around hiways in tokyo is really relaxing!!!

P.S.
they should have a photomode like GT! :D:tup:

Goodluck with that iceburns, you speak of gamers that like games. People here only like sony.

Or if they are like you they just follow around the general consensus (ATi).

Or maybe they just make unfounded claims and rediculous statements out of spite?

Or...I'll stop here.

Wasn't the Tokyo Xtreme Racer games always cheap. Maybe thats why it does not look good.

If the graphics were improved then you would have to pay more for the game.
