I have been a life-long SonyFan.......

I keep reading good things about Forza and what I need to know is if it is worth getting an Xbox and Forza? I have only played about 5 minutes EVER on a Xbox (in store set ups, PGR2 and NCAA 2005). I have never really wanted an Xbox since I have been happy with my PS2. The only advantage I see in a Xbox in graphics. I don't really care about the Xbox exclusive games since I only get a limited amount of time to play as it is (married w/ 2 kids, full-time job, etc.....)

BUT, this game has piqued my interest unlike any Xbox game before it....Is it worth it to get a Xbox just for Forza?

Help me out, this could be my Father's Day gift :dopey: (after I convince the wife)

last edit: I also wil not be playing on Xbox Live...not paying to play online 👎

You may want to check out this site to see if you can determine what type of DVD drive your proposed Xbox has before you buy it:

http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/xbox_dvd_version_comparison.htm

I've had an Xbox since release, and of course, it has the Thompson Drive...the crappiest drive known to mankind. It took forever to finish The Elder Scrolls : Morrowind because of constant dirty disk errors. Most M$ fanboys claim that the Samsung Drive is the most reliable, but there seems to be different versions of this drive as well.

I haven't really heard of people having DDEs with 4za and I know that I won't find out for myself until it hits the bargain bin. I still have GT4 and Enthusia to finish before I waste some hard earned cash. I tried PGR2 online a bit, but some rooms were a mess and the same thing is happening with 4za. I also won't pay M$ for the service, or for any possible future downloadable content for 4za, or any other game.

The only thing that has interested me about Forza is the physics. It is really suprising that Forza would come out with such a great physics model for the first game. although GT4's physics model is more realistic than GT3's at speed, GT4 was a step back sort of, in terms of the all around bulletprof-ness of GT3's physics model. You could do dougnuts in GT3 for instance. No other aspect of Forza really interests me except for one car I like that didnt turn up in GT4. No it's not a ferrari, it's the Civic Si coupe. Thats not enough of a reason for me to go buy an X box and Forza. I already have a computer and a DFP. I'd rather just get a proper PC sim for my "racer in training" moments, at let that help me feel better about GT4's less than perfect physics model.

[EDIT]
By the way, TigJackson, I love your sig.

GT4 physics engine is not more realistic. Forza has damage. Hitting walls/AI and paying for it dearly is realistic. Having your front & rear windshields blown out and bumpers hanging off, and loosing paint from contact is realistic. Forza won't let you drive like a tool without consequence. I don't know sqat about vectors and math but to me that is more realistic.

If the cash for a system + game isn't much of a concern to you and you are a racing genre fan, I think Forza is something that should be in your collection. Personally I wouldn't buy a system JUST for one game but I'm a cheap bastard.

Ah well honestly, I really would play it yourself for 10 minutes or so... some like Forza others don't.... Forza is not perfect, the game only has 30 fps, the damage model is not that realistic ( well of course at least it has one) the races become very repetitive after a short time ( always the same type of racing, not many tracks ), grafics are too colorful, gameplay is not really realistic, for example cars drift too easily and you can get them back from the drift too easily.... you can make a negative list like this for every game, just wanted to say that it is not the ultimate racing game... so play it first, and maybe also testplay Enthusia... way better physiks than Forza and GT4 in my opinon for very little $$$...

Thank you all for your input.......
I now have another question...with Xbox360 on the horizon, has anyone heard of an e.t.a. on Forza2 and would it be better to wait for that? I know that Forza just came out......

Inferno...I've been wanting to have the Civic Si Coupe also....

2o...I'm not worried about the cash aspect since I would talk my wife into getting for me for my Father's Day gift :)....

Max DC... that might be a good idea. I guess I'll be looking for a in-store demo this weekend

Well, Xbox 360 hits store before christmas... but I am no friend of "let's wait half a year or one year for XY" because there is always something better on the horizon, if you you always wait, you will never really live.... so test-play Enthusia and Forza... then decide and just buy it...

See, here is my problem...I barely get enough time to play as it is. Married, 2 kids, full time job, working out after work, GT4 (still playing), GTA: San Andreas (haven't played since Xmas when I got Ratchet & Clank:Up Your Arsenal which I finished right berfore GT4), Toca 2 (really liked but only played 1 night). Adding the Xbox will just stretch my time even thinner for playing.

By waiting maybe I can finish what I have and then concentrate on the Xbox360 (at least until the PS3!).....

On the other hand, I've obviously never worried about it before since I still have games to finish (including Metal Gear Solid 2)....I think I'll just get it if I like the in-store stuff...

sorry I'm just rambling, work has wrecked my brain already today :nervous:

EDIT: You know what? Nevermind...if I waited this long to get an Xbox what makes me think that I'm going to rush to the store to grab a Xbox360 when it comes out?!? I'm not going to wait for the new one, if I like the in-store, I'm getting it! ...before Father's Day!!!!! :dopey:

Yes I'd get it. I just got my copy today and I'm loving it. It's a shame that Nurburgring isn't as good as GT4's. With GT4, it doesn't keep your attention. Forza has a more addictive gameplay and with all the vinals and extensive tuning options, I'm not going to put this game away for a while.

If cash isn't a concern, then definitely pick up Forza. No racing fan with an Xbox (or the means to get one) should be without it. It's ahead of GT in some areas and behind GT in others, but it's a great game across the board and joins the ranks of GT4 and Burnout 3 as one of the best racers of this console generation. I'd say go for it.

Also like Max DC said, don't sleep on Enthusia. It's an insanely engaging affair that's passing completely under radar because it launched on the same day as Forza... I can honestly say I've spent more time behind the wheel with Enthusia than Forza...

buy forza, it has better cars, damage a much better A.I better car tuning and its harder as well than gt4 which means you will have more fun saving up your penny's for a ferrari or porsche

in my opinion i think this is what everyone wanted gt4 to be:tup:

Don't buy Forza and solely play offline. It will get boring and you'll feel like you wasted your money. You have two choices. Dont buy xbox, or, buy xbox/forza/XBL. Pretty big investment for one game..

Buy Forza, I play offline only & it is more fun then GT4! I loved PGR2 & Forza feels like an extension of that game. If you love driving games & cars (especially exotics like Ferrari & Porsche) then you could do alot worse than Forza..... alot worse!!

-=PYRO=-
dont get forza and XBL at the same time because u wont want to play 1 player mode youll just go str8 to playing online which is bad :)

I second that, all I want to do is go online and drift with others now, Ill never get past level 24!!! But yeah Forza finally made me cave in and get XBL

Well, I can't say that I will be playing online much, but I may give it a shot. I've always played more single player than online with my PS2 games so I'm sure I'll stay that way..... just too many cheezers and cheaters ( I've been jaded by Madden and NCAA online)

again I may try it out...but I am definitelt getting it!

.....still pondering how to get the wife to get it before Father's Day.....

The fact that Forza has an online mode is a plus. But the fact that it the online mode has a lot of drawbacks sucks.

For instance

Classes are very poorly balanced. There are cars that way outperform any other car within the class. Also, it seems only the power to weight ratio and the tyres seem to influence the class rating. For instance, an impreza with a downforce kit is in the same class as one without.

A limited filter system. It is possible to set up some racing conditions(like the flawed class system, amount of laps damage etc.) but it is not detailed enough. There is no possibility to exclude or include tuned cars. It is not possible to filter cars by brand or even type. Also, it is impossible to allow a race with or without driving aids. Everyone can make it as easy for themselves as possible. This allowes people to win through making use of the games loopholes instead of their skills.

Finding loopholes in games has it's charmes, but in racing games it mostly generates irritation. Many people allready have found places on tracks where one can make a shortcut to win the race. For instance on Road Atlanta. Just use a high powered car and plough your way through the gravel at the end of the last chicane. And also the infamous wallriding is an option in Forza.

I race with the 3rd person view. This gives me a better view of the situation. But what ruines it all is the fact that players names and laptimes are positioned right in the line of sight of the corners. So when I drive behind another car, the players name blocks my view of the road ahead.

Of course, many of these issues are solved by getting a buddylist with some serious and enthousiastic racers, and just making use of the communicator. But I am just a casual gamer(when it comes to Forza) who now and then races online and just wants to have a good time without any hassle. I don't have time to gather up the people from my buddylist and just want to have a good race in the room I enter.

As everyone else has said. BUY IT! I have been a GT fan forever and now that Forza has come out I seriously havent even opened the GT4 case at all. Without going into great detail about how good this game is just buy it. You wont be disappointed especially if you have x-box live with it.
Just look at my first post in this thread. MANY reasons to buy forza!!
This is why you should buy Forza and the X-box

Too bad to hear you wont pay $4.00 a month to play online but I used to say the same thing too. But now that I have x-box live I absolutely love it!!!! X-box live is another thing that makes x-box soo much better.

i wud not accept forza for free (possibly to sell on ebay :) ). Online idea and car cuztomisation is fantastic, you can make some amazing designs. The racing is horrible and bad framerate. The noises are muffled and horrible for all but the best cars. The tracks are all narrow. The reflections lag. The computer is suicidal and likes to spin u out at start. Gets boring quickly. Like said i wud rent it, coz u will either hate it or like it. Oh and the replays r boring with and same crappy framrate (30fps) that dunt feel finished. All u need is GT.

GT ROX!!!!!! .... c'mon man, type it like you write it........

I have the game now, and yes I like it! have you tried it? All of your complaints can be fixed with good driving (except the framerate-which I don't have a problem with)

I rekon forza 2 will be good, coz they r gonna get complaints about fiddly bits that let it down for some of us an change it. Played on Forza, i got quite a bit done as well, wanted to give it a good chance.

GT is a better sim, while forza is new and has lots of good ideas

Well I just played it at my buddies house, damn I am dissapointed. I thought the mighty XBOX will have alot better graphics, not enough cars, the crash damage just sucks. Two player is not good, the graphics get sliced even more. Physics = a big plus, but otherwise, not too great of a game.
