I must have tried 100 times to win the vw camper race and never get better then 3rd. I'm gettin so annoyed with it, I want to be able to practice on the track. Dose anyone know of anything that can help me, can I buy a camper, tune it and breeze the race? Help please

You should use drafting almost all the time on the straights.
Outbrake and take the inner lines.
At the same time, try carrying as much speed as possible through the corners (especially when not overtaking). This is a very slow vehicle and you should adjust your driving style accordingly. Maximize exit speed.

Of course, be more aggressive than the racing line suggests.

Keep trying, you should nail it. I aslo had to do it a few times, but won by a big margin eventually.

Good luck!

The first time I tried it I came last! Two more attempts ended in a similar fashion so I gave up. However, I came back to it this last weekend and got the gold after an hour or so (not sure how many races that amounted to!).

The key thing I found was to ignore the driving line guidance, especially the suggested braking. You hardly need to brake at all, throw that bus around the track like a crazy person. And don't give up too early - I didn't take the lead until the last bend on lap 2. 👍

There's bound to be some YouTube vids showing people doing this - have you had a look?

It's not easy at first, just want to get that said before the, "I did this challenge with a pad that doesn’t go left and the x button is stuck down, while playing GTPSP and spinning plates you stupid noob." morons show up.

Take heart in the knowledge that is it possible, turn the racing line off as it tells you to break way too early. Stick to the right side of everyone on the run toward the hammer head, yeah they don't leave much space, but trust me. The second last corner the AI breaks stupid early, if you can avoid a collision, you can grab a bunch of places in one go.

Just keep at it, if you get too frustrated, race something else for a while.

I've come to the conclusion that when they made the Top Gear challenges (especially that first VW Bus one), the staff of Top Gear sat around laughing their asses off, as they thought of all the gamers who would get stuck here time after time! Top Gear has a humorous element to it, and I truely think Jeremy and company was cracking up with this one. I'm very experienced with Gran turismo, but even I got stuck on this level for a couple hours. :dunce:

I did a write-up for this level, which might help...

http://www.gtcarreviews.com/id249.html

It's a step by step which I wrote the other night.

these have actually been the easiest challenges for me (and the karts of course)....with the bus just draft until the last possible second...on the turns make SURE to break AFTER they do on every turn (on half the turns you don't even need to use the break, you should know which ones by now). and when possible bump the AI (on their side panel) when taking the inside on corners as this is quicker than breaking yourself. Just make sure that you don't ram them from behind as this often DQs you. Thats all i can think of for now

This took me forever to do... but it is possible! Here's what helped me, hopefully it might be of some use to you as well.

1- At the first corner, take a wider line than the AI vans, and make a sharper turn in without braking.
2- On the run down towards the tyres at Chicago, don't brake. Avoid the Ai, straight line as much as possible, drive over some of the (white stripe) cones if you need to.
3- At Chicago don't break unless you are going to run really wide or slam into the AI.
4- As others have said, slipstream the AI towards Hammerhead but pull to the right of them before they brake. Try and make the left turn of Hammerhead with as little braking as possible.
5- This, for me, was the most important - coming out of Hammerhead, do what ever you can to make sure you are slipstreaming someone. It makes a huge difference to your speed for the second part of the lap.
6- After Hammerhead, don't brake at all until the last corner, Gambon.

I must have had literally 100 tries at this, with a best of 9th, before it finally clicked. Then I went 2nd - DQ (cutting Gambon!) - 1st. And I was in first by the Follow-Through on Lap 2.

Don't give up!

This one was pretty hard. While racing the last one in the TopGear series with a Kübelwagen, I found out that it runs straight into the rev limiter at about 80 km/h dropping your speed to 72. So at 79km/h, I stopped accelerating and immediately hit the button again so it stays at that speed. 👍

The Kubelwagen race was the most fun I have had in GT5 so far! First of all, these ridiculous looking cars t-bone each other right in front of you on the follow thru :) There are nazi military cars flipping around in clouds of smoke, you barely dodge the amphibious versions on the second lap. To top it off, I actually placed FIRST on my 1st try! Considering the other 2 ASININE races in this series I was shocked. I still cannot get a SILVER in the Elise race.

I found it great fun doing this one. Frustrating at first until you realise that you'll never do it if you drive like the AIs and follow the Blue line. All the advice given above is good. You are on track if you can get to 5th or 6th place at the start of the second lap.
Here's how id did it.
Take #11 on the outside on the exit of the tight 1st left. Go slightly wide on approach, ease off the gas then cut in close and drift wide again. Don't brake, you should pass him on the right as you parallel the cones.
Watch out for #10 who will brake hard for the kink to the left. Drop back a little if necessary and then shoot past him on the right as he goes left. Take the cones out in the process, it's OK they are red and white.
Carry on full pelt down towards Chicago and try to take #9 on the left between him and the tires, braking a bit for the turn and keep a tight line around the inside of the others through Chicago, with luck you'll be in front of #9 as you head down towards the Hammerhead.
Hang back a little from #8 and #7 who will be trying to pass each other but always seem to collide when #7 slams on the anchors. Keep to the right of them and slip past and sharp left on the entrance to Chicago then keep a tight line around without loosing speed. You should leave the Hammerhead hot on the heels of #6.
If you can slipstream him tight through the followthrough and take him down the main runway as you approach the 2nd to last corner.
Don't brake for this corner just ease of a touch and turn in tight, you will fly past #5, and then a touch of brake before Gambon. But try to keep as much speed as possible, you'll need it to keep up with #4 at the start of lap 2.
Tail #4 and take him as you took #11 at the first corner. Using the same method as the first lap you take #3 at Chicago and by the exit of the Hammerhead you should be hot on the heels of #2.
Slipstream #2 on the way through the Follow Through (just don't touch the red cone on the corner) and head on down to the 2nd to last.
Same technique as before should see you just slip past #1 on the entrance to Gambon and over the line in 1st place with about a second or two to spare.
Good luck and keep at it.
The Kubelwagons in TGTT Special Advanced are great fun but also a lot easier IMHO.

The top gear VW races are not that bad really. The one thing you need to do here is first feel out where the rev limiter is on it. Once you know this keep an eye on your speed and let up on the throttle just enough to keep it 1 mph under the rev limiter. The others will hit the rev limiter and they will slow down. When they do you just breeze right past them. Very easy in the 3rd challenge. a bit harder in the bus but when I did this I got gold in both of the first try.

The Lotus is another story.

Use manual gears if you dont already. Throw it around corners. Never use racing or braking lines and draft draft draft aha. This was impossible for me untill I put it on manual ( I already threw it about and don't use aids) then I did it first time eaasyyy.

I think chaosdd hit it on the head with his tips. You can't rely on acceleration to make up for mistakes with the VW Bus. Instead focus on maintaining a clean line, keeping your speed up, drafting and passing in turns.

I beat this challenge (gold) after 10 or so tries. The main thing is moving up the grid as fast as possible initially before the race leader gets to far ahead. By the end of lap 1 I was consistently in 3rd place. Then you have an entire lap to focus on the last 2 vehicles.

I can see that, but this should be a warning to all other racing titles not to let these three guys plan events carte blanche. The result has been THE most bizarre series ever in GT. It seems that the "samba bus", "kubelwagen" and "schwimmagen" were put in the game specifically for this series. I can't wrap my brain around Kaz specifically wanting a hippie bus and two WWII Nazi infantry transports for his racing franchise. I can only conclude that the weirdos over at BBC had carte blanche in deciding the events on their track and proceeded to make a joke out of it. Regardless, I love these weird, weird cars and I think more unpleasant vintage beaters should be available in games. Bless PD, they have got the original Kafer beetle, the Karmann Ghia, and the original GTI. Either Clarkson had his fun or they really are obsessed with old Volkswagens at PD. Still no excuse for the VAMPIRE elise race, where I have to put the ABS on 10 and stack up aids like a skid row clinic just to place fifth.

Did they make it so you can try another difficulty or at least have silver in one of the top gear challenges to unlock the track with the new update?

If you find the Camper race hard, your really going to hate the Lotus race.

i tried this a few times and the key to it i found is to use manual gears , i noticed on the last corner on the first lap if you in automatic then you lose too much speed because its changed up to 4th and you get bogged down , where as in manual you can stay in 3rd and keep up with the leading pack

hth

If you're desperate to play the Top Gear track then favourite up a few of your cars and make your own online lounge and make it private and you can select the track from there and just do free runs.

It took me about a week to do this! I came back to it and eventually did it.
What I did is on the first corner, take the inside line and pass two of them, then on the 2nd corner overtake another 1 maybe 2, then on the 3rd you should be able to cut across 1 maybe 2 again, by the time you’re on the runway you want to be in 6th if not restart!

On the 2nd lap, do the same, the key is drafting, stay behind the vans even if there really far away from you! Your see the speed difference, and when you right up behind them, nearly touching them, overtake!

Good Luck!!

I'm not seeing the Top Gear track in this option :(

Did they change this event after 1.05!! or am I getting better!

I decided to start again, and see how far I could get without buying another car (other than the first).. so either win them or find where you can get too..

When I got to this challenge, I was amazed, I golded the camper vans first time round, and the lotus event after 3 attempts!! previously the best i could get on any of these was a silver.. anyone else feel this is the case?
