I posted the track map because I've found it very helpful.

I've been having a ton of fun just taking cars and pushing them as hard as I can around the Top Gear Test Track. Sometimes not just going for top speed but also throwing the cars around corners to test the fun factor of the car the way they do in the show.

Trying to squeeze every milliseconds out the cars and throwing them wildly around the track is endless fun.

Really looking forward to leaderboards so I can chase some impossible to catch ghosts.

P.S. Does anyone have any tips on the Wilson corner in MR cars?

I love the top gear test track too, after completing the level 30 Red Bull Challenge, i keep coming back to this to test out cars and try and push it to their limits!

Can't wait for online leaderboards as well, that will be great to challenge other ppl's times. For the Wilson corner for MR cars (e.g. Mazda 787B, Minolta, F1 cars, X2010 etc) I usually brake fairly early, e.g. 6th to 4th, just before the turn, i then take it down to 2nd gear and try and hug the inside line as close as possible before applying full throttle through to Chicago.

Well I'd really like to share your enthusiasm for the TGTT but just can't. I like natural layouts, height elevation, bumps, camber changes... TGTT is desperatly flat and dull. Cones and painted lines on a parking lot, this is all I can see.

It's my antithesis of a fun track. Plus the visibility issues are painful :ouch:

I'm a big fan of the TG Track, but the invisible walls being so close to the edge of the track really ruin it for me.

Yes, especially the one you hit when you understeer going into Bacharach. It's way too close to the track. I hope they fix that but once you stop running into the wall you forget it's there.

I soooo wish I could agree w/ you TC. Cones and invisible walls rip a lot of fun out of the track for me. I thought races at that track would be insanely fun with the figure 8 layout but the overly restrictive penalty system just destroys the fun. Barely go wide in a corner and it's like a 15 second penalty. Awful. I was in a full room online and we raced on the TGTT and by the end of the race people were cursing and begging to change the track. Not much fun at all sadly... :ouch:

It is a brilliant track, its familiar to people outside of the motor racing or simracing worlds, its not too long but its still has corners that test cars in various different ways, its great fun in my opinion, easy to learn, difficult to master.

I had it on Rfactor and used to drive it loads, atleast when my friends came over that is the track they would want to race on. We used the honda civic mod, with the 90bhp car, great fun!

On GT5 i've spent a lot of time driving cars around here, and started to compile a list of laps done by various cars, its a great hotlapping track for any type of car; and even better that you can then compare it to the real world laptimes, which is one of the only places where all the top road supercars have a laptime recorded.

Well, it's not really a race track. It's a test track. So, I agree with you there but I don't think it's meant to be a good race track. But a 1 on 1 race there would probably be fun.

Yeah I mistimed Gambon and hit into the invisible walls that many a Star In A Reasonably Priced Car have hit on the show....

I don't see the need for invisible walls or even the runway being blocked off, kind of ruins all the fun.

You unlock for Arcade/Practice mode by getting Gold in the beginner Top Gear Special Event.

Which I can not manage even with all the help and hints in this forum. That challenge is just so frustrating and ****** that I can't stomach retrying it for more than 10 minutes... And I keep getting DQ'ed.

IT SUCKS SO HARD! :yuck:

It's a great inclusion. I just wish it had a version with the full runway and no cones and in isible walls, so you could just muck around doing big drifts and drag races etc just like they do on the show. Every room online I've been to are doing just this, the race never starts!

Love the top gear track great fun use it online a lot. Only problem with it are the invisible walls close to the edge of the track.

This, no standing starts and the lack of any challenges even remotely related to the show. Also, the faulty default tire choices in the game render any kind of supercar testing with relevance to the real world useless unless you correct this first.

For me it's like I'm a child again, walking into the biggest candy store of the world. I'm so happy it's like birthday and christmas eve combined, but every time I reach for a sweet, an adult slaps my hand away and says "No, you mustn't do that!". That applies to the majority of things to do in GT5 I'm afraid...

I'm sorry, but I just can't like the TGTT. Without the extra cones seen in the challenges, it can difficult to see where you should be braking or turning, or where the apexes are. This is even worse in online free run lobbies where any cones are quickly knocked down by drag racers and bad drivers.

Of course, now that I think about it, the first part of this post may be complete garbage. I'll have to check it out this weekend.

It's quite fun..

But i'd rather have had Brands Hatch or Silverstone in the game personally.

Done afew Drag Races online, Always a laugh :D

It's a fun track but the only reason I like it so much is cos I love the TV show.

QUESTION: Are the times posted on the TV show with standing starts? Seems that way from the replays, which are always edited.

If so, it's impossible to compare our personal bests to the Stig's.

Also, which would be the most realistic tires to use to compare ourselves to the Stig?

I imagine the Suzuki Liana comes with Comfort Hards, but not the Koeniggsegggeegseggggggg.

They are standing starts and why is it impossible? Just stop at the start/finish line and go when you are ready...

TBH I would've preferred the whole runway being open to race... It's still a nice track, but I just sometimes stop and look at the lenght of the runway behind the barriers... If only...

Brambos. I know you've read tips and tried but DO take note of these ones. They worked for me, after many frustrating attempts.

1. ALL AIDS OFF
2. Barely use the brake... EVER.
3. Draft like crazy
4. Use 'Automatic' to avoid lost time through gear changes.
5. Let the accelerator off momentarily at the rev limit in top gear(avoids engine slowing down, bouncing between too high and acceptable ranges)

Try these and you will see an improvement. You can make contact with the sides of the other Buses but a hit in the back will leave you DQ'd.
Good luck

ON TOPIC:

The tracks plenty of fun for practising drifting on but like people said, the invisble walls aren't fun at all! Remove them please ;)Go on.. that's the only reason that abandoned air fields are fun in the first place... o.O

Ahh...I see, from the second lap. Why didn't I think of that...thanks!

It'll be difficult to do in continuously, though. If you were doing times purely to compare to TG, you'd have to stop before the start line every alternate lap.

I use this track to test drive any car I won, and online, I enjoy playing catch with 'youngsters' trying to run me off course. Knowing how to outmanouver them is endless fun. I avg about 1:06 with my Lambo Murc.
