Which I can not manage even with all the help and hints in this forum. That challenge is just so frustrating and ****** that I can't stomach retrying it for more than 10 minutes... And I keep getting DQ'ed.
IT SUCKS SO HARD!
I just completed the race last night. The main idea is to avoid losing speed going through turns. Here are some things I discovered last night:
1) Right as the word, "START" comes across the screen immediately shift up.
2) Your first difficult turn is Wilson. Don't follow the other buses or the driving line. Instead, get as far right as possible without driving off track and enter the turn making a turn as wide as possible going through the apex.
3) As you exit Wilson, the AI here is going a lot slower than necessary so it's pretty easy to overtake some buses here. I've discovered that you won't get DQ'd if you drive over the cones on the left, so you can just drive through these cones to overtake some of the buses.
4) As you enter Chicago, move to the right and try and stay on the inside as you go around this turn. When you exit, try and ride the draft of another bus to the hammerhead.
5) Unless you're certain you can go fast enough to overtake anyone between Chicago and Hammerhead, I'd recommend to just stay behind someone and ride the draft.
6) As you approach the hammerhead, the AI will begin breaking early. Once they start breaking, overtake on their right (I've found that going left, I would always drive into the cones and get DQ'd) and begin breaking immediately.
7) In the hammerhead, AVOID DRIFTING as you will lose time and speed. It's more efficient to slow all the way down to second gear and drive carefully. Upon exiting, try and ride the draft behind another bus. You might get lucky and get the opportunity to overtake.
8) At the follow-through, drive as close to the apex of the turn as possible. You sould be able to do this part with full speed. Beware, if you drive over the red painted island you'll get DQ'd.
9) Go through Bentley by going as close to the cone as possible without hitting it onto the runway. On this runway, don't follow the other drivers or the driving line. Instead, go as far right as you can on the runway so that you can get make the widest turn possible through the second-last corner which should allow you to do this without slowing down. While going around the second-last corner, be aware of the other buses in front of you. Try and anticipate their driving line so that you don't accidentally drive into them and get DQ'd. You should be able to pass a couple at this spot before Gambon.
10) On the last turn before the starting line, don't cut through the grass or hit another bus since both lead to getting DQ'd. The AI here will go through the apex on their turn so there's no way to pass on the inside if the AI has already started turning. Your best move is to slow down and get behind them through the turn then try and overtake them later.
11) Go over the starting line and repeat for the second lap.
