My mate said he did it in the first few hours o play, but cant remember what he did. I'm nearly at level 20 and still don't have it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

You were originally correct, but 1.05 re-weighted some of the challenge outcomes. I had a bronze and two silvers and the track unlocked immediately after installing 1.05.
