How do you get a line start on the top gear test track?? I cant get it off of rolling start! HELP!

I assume that you are trying to do one lap tests like on Top Gear?

I would just run a lap and stop just short of the line. From a dead stop, then run your lap. The clock for the next lap won't start until you cross the start line, so just start just short of the line.

Right?

As silly as it is, that is how you have to do it. You don't have to run a lap first though. If you can stop before you cross the line for lap one it will be the same effect. Your tires will be cold though. I don't know how Top Gear does their tests, cold or hot tires, etc.

If you think about the way they do the show, the Stig works with the person for some time, then they run 10 laps from a stand still. I would guess that means warm tires.

Also, think about how they have to drive it. Line up the car, hit the gas, start the clock, cross the line, drive it around and line up to do it again. Same as in GT5, so what's the problem? Would you really want to wait for a load screen in between each lap you attempt?

The way I do it is, switch to bumper cam, use the driving line, and line the car up so there is only one full block of the driving line between the car and the start line. Fractionally further starts the timer.

It's actually quite easy to get perfect standing starts consistently...
1.) go into the "community" tab and click on the coffee cup
2.) set up your private match. Dont worry about any of the settings excep track. You obviously want the top gear track
3.) watch the loading screens...
4.) ask yourself "am I in the right car?" if not go to the little icon that looks like a car and select the one you want
5.) click go to track and start race
6.) stuff around for 40 seconds
7.) speed around the track as quikly as possible
8.) cross the line. Lap time is the one you want
9.) rinse and repeat steps 5-8

I was thinking about the "power lap board" times. I have no idea what standards, if any, are used for that. Even the segments with the reasonably priced car, there's no telling how soon after the practice laps they run the real lap. They could have an hour of practice, go off to have lunch, put the car on the line and then go for the lap. I've got no idea. Maybe sometimes they do it differently. It's a TV show not a research lab. If you are aware of somewhere where the staff has posted their methods I would like to see them though.

I don't understand your second paragraph at all, perhaps you could rephrase it.

You don't need to re-load the track though.
1) load track, stop before you cross the line.
2) standing start, do a lap
3) cross the line, and do a leisurely drive around the course, stopping before the line again
4) do another standing start

You just did 2 standing start laps, one on cold tires, one on warm with a lap in between to set up the standing start for the second time.
