I went 685mph and the only guy in the world of GT5 went past the sound barrier which is 762mph, he hit 768mph.

Haha does anything happen once you hit the sound barrier?

Well, all the sound disappears at around 460mph, (because it would seem that this is programmed on the speed you're travelling, rather than the engine revs you're using) so I would assume nothing happens at all. Shame on PD!

Googledocs updated with all relevant new or faster data.

Before posting your speeds, please take a moment to check the googledocs page before posting any speeds you have, as there are well over 400 cars already tested to within an inch of their maximum speeds, and the last few pages of this thread have been littered with slower achievements.

We also don't need drafted speeds, I'm having enough trouble keeping up with the legitimate speedtest results as it is, without having to attempt to recreate a special set of circumstances to validate draft runs.

I've got a few new speeds to post up later today/tomorrow, as I've really been messing around with some of the cars suspension settings, and have exceeded quite a few of my previous entries. Stay tuned for some monsters!!

Googledocs Update 10/9/12
New test results and one new addition to the sheet:

  1. New Addition - Audi R10 TDi Race Car - 272.9mph
  2. Gran Turismo Red Bull X2010 S. Vettel - 320.0mph
  3. Bentley Speed 8 Race Car - 290.9mph
  4. Peugeot 908 HDI FAP - Team Peugeot Total - 288.1mph
  5. Peugeot 908 HDI FAP - Team Oreca Matmut - 288.2mph
  6. Toyota Minolta 88C-V Race Car - 283.8mph (pretty sure this will go faster!)
  7. Pescarolo Courage Judd GVS Race Car '04 - 278.4mph
  8. BMW V12 LMR - 279.1mph
  9. Mazda 787B Race Car - 276.1mph
  10. Pescarolo Courage C60 Peugeot Race Car '03 - 273.6mph
  11. Audi R8 Race Car '01 - 290.4mph (Previous record - 269.8mph)
  12. Audi R8 Race Car (Team Playstation Oreca) '05 - 290.3mph (Previous record - 266.1mph)

Some of these are only tiny improvements, but there are a few that smashed the previous runs, the R8's were a complete shock at how easy they managed to exceed previous runs. The Bentley managed another 5 or so mph, thanks to a complete overhaul of the gearing

Further retests to follow,,,

You beat me to it , I'll just have to raise then: (speeds below are all from before patch 2.08)

520.2 km/h / 323.3 mph - Gran Turismo Red Bull X2010 Prototype
473.9 km/h / 294.5 mph - Audi R8 Race Car '01
460.3 km/h / 286.0 mph - BMW V12 LMR Race Car '99
446.0 km/h / 277.1 mph - Audi R10 TDI Race Car '06
370.6 km/h / 230.3 mph - BMW M5 '05
363.1 km/h / 225.6 mph - Ferrari F10 '10
358.9 km/h / 223.0 mph - Audi R8 LMS Race Car (Team PlayStation) '09
358.9 km/h / 223.0 mph - Audi R8 LMS Race Car '09
339.2 km/h / 210.8 mph - Mitsubishi Eclipse GT '06

I'm also planning on adding a video of my Veyron record in km/h , I've got 3 different replays of reaching 486.7 km/h (all done with slightly different setups and different controller types)

I've recorded the replays alredy , but I'll need to edit out / cut the loading bars and alike first.

And two personal bests , but not record material..
495.8 km/h / 308.1 mph - GT-One Race Car (TS020) '99
466.8 km/h / 290.1 mph - Nissan R92CP Race Car '92

NOTE: I've come to find , that the speeds are all based on kilometers , there is no way to go up 0.1 mph without doing at least 0.1 km/h faster aswell.
(it's a one way , simple conversion to mph instead of an accurate independent unit)

And because of this it could be better if the leaderboard (google doc) would have the speeds listed first in km/h and after that converted into mph. [/my opinion]

2.08 has brought along some massive changes to the racecars, top speeds are now getting much higher. Gains of 10+mph per car are easily now achievable, I've managed a gain of 30mph in the GTOne, so my aim is to get it over 334.5mph, which I ran just moments ago.

(Braces himself for the flood)

First results set from my 2.08 testing:

  • Redbull X2011 Prototype - 340.4mph (Horrified!)
  • Redbull X2010 - 318.9mph (Close to previous)
  • Redbull X2010 S. Vettel - 315.5mph
  • Toyota GT One - 335.6mph (A gain of 30mph over my previous)
  • Bugatti Veyron - 299.1mph (Slower than my previous by around 4mph)
  • Nissan R92CP - 303.1mph
  • Bentley Speed 8 - 301.6mph
  • Peugeot 908 Total - 303.2mph
  • Peugeot 908 Matmut - 303.3mph
  • Pescarolo C60 Hybride Judd - 302.3mph
  • Toyota Minolta - 298.1mph
  • Pescarolo Courage Judd GV5 - 296.7mph
  • BMW V12 LMR - 287.0mph
  • Chevrolet Corvette Z06 RM - 272.7mph
  • Mazda 787B - 290.8mph
  • Cadillac Cien - 270.9mph
  • Mercedes Sauber - 283.2mph
  • Mercedes SL600 (R230) - 270.1mph

A small oddity, but nonetheless worthy of sharing. With the LM Prototypes I found that a 55 rear wing setting gave a faster result than the lowest 50 setting. The weight-on-the-nose trick still gives a higher top speed too, which is very odd, still.

Not sure how to incorporate this data into Googledocs, but I'm tempted to retain the existing speeds from previous and simply add a new 2.08 column for speeds set from today onwards.

I tried to get the GT-ONE above your record but I could only manage 333.6 MPH. What sort of settings are you using? My best result was Aero: 30/63 and Ballast @ 10kg to the front.

Completely softened suspension, with all at the lowest properties, ride heights front high and rear low as per 2.07. The kicker is the ballast, 200kg at -50, which produces the highest top speed, despite what logic would tell you. Secondly there seems to still be a bit of an aero glitch, as I found that 55 on the rear produces a higher result than the 50 that the update would suggest would be better. This method seems to work across all the race prepped cars I've tested so far, but as you can imagine there's plenty more to run through.

I'll stick the car on share in the morning for you to grab the full setup, should you need more details.

That's really odd. My car seems to be behaving strangely when it comes to ballast. I never tried the full 200KG at -50 but I did try 150 and it was a whole lot slower. Perhaps 200 is the magic number. My suspension is full on soft and I have a special damper setting - strangely enough dampers matter in 2.08. I'm guessing I've missed something somewhere - I'll take a look whenever you put the car up. Just to make sure, you did do a line to line run, right?

Funny how in 2.07 my GT-ONE was running 200KG ballast at +50.

My Bugatti still hits about the same speeds as before the update... not sure what happened to yours.

Yeah, I started playing around with it to make it more stable online and haven't managed to reset it back yet, lol.
Gtone is now on share

Audi R8 Race Car '01 now running 310.0mph using the same method as described for my Gtone, think I might add a new page to the googledocs, or start a new one with gains showing the difference between 2.07 & 2.08.

Make that 503.3 km/h / 312.8 mph (needs more than 55 rear DF)

And this still reaches similar speeds - with a slightly different setup)

486.6 km/h / 302.4 mph - Bugatti Veyron 16.4 '09 (0.1 km/h from the previous record)
(lost 0.2 km/h on the update , found 0.1 again)

Toyota GT One - 337.4mph; offline 10k

---
It hits 345mph online, although only with flying start.

Running high 338's over the standing 10km, with thanks to Ugabugaz. Over a full lap it's currently faster than my X11!!

I've decided to take this up, but i'm just doing it for stock supercars and street legal tuner cars. I thought it would be more fair to run everyone on sports hard tires to make things slightly less biased.

Right now i'm at car #29, which is the Grand Touring Garage Can Am, but i reckon there's at least a good 20 or so cars to do up.

338.9 MPH to be exact :)

I'll go and see how fast I can push it online. Perhaps we could do an Online category in the Google Docs spreadsheet? Would be really useful for high speed rooms and such. After that I'm thinking I'll see what I can do with the X2011 Proto.

A few new and one rerun for 2.08
