I've been driving older LMP cars, and I noticed something-they all have a lot of torque until 4th gear, enough so that you have to manage it. But, how? I'm not sure how to get through to 4th gear quickly enough without the wheels spinning too much.

Are you supposed to just manage the throttle, or is it a tuning issue, or do you short-shift?

. Try setting your L S D to 8-8-20.

You have to be lighter on the throttle and progressively push on it as you gain speed. A very low LSD setting helps a lot. makes the inner wheel spin, keeping the car from over steering.

That's what I've been doing, I just wanted to be sure that it's what I'm supposed to do.
