Red_Line-
Just wanted to know if anyone in or near Toronto knows of any roads that resemble a tougue.

I actually found a nice winding road in Mississauga :) .

It's not very long, the "Winding Road" sign read that it was 1.3 KM long.

Anyways the map doesn't show it to be very winding or convincing of anything resembling a tougue, but it is.
The two lane road is a very nice pass through a forest, that has nice twists, and guardrails with alot of arrow signs.

It is located on the intersection: Dundas St. W and Missisauga Road, right before you enter the rich credit valley neigbour hood.

Toronto is flat as a board, so good luck with finding something like that.

Plus, Shannonville and Calabogie both have a ton of good track days this year, so check it out. It's far better reaching and passing your and your car's limits on a track anyways.

Yeah toronto is but I mean around Toronto there alot of places, like that one I found in Mississauga.

Those tracks you talk about, they're just ovals aren't they?

No, not at all. Shannonville can be configured in several possible setups, and Calabogie is a full track, and it just opened late last season, so it's still in perfect shape. Check it out:

Also if you're interested in drifting, make a tirp out to Montreal. Autodrome St Eustache is 20 minutes from downtown and they hold drift events there every Sunday for like 15$ or something.

Great, now I know exactly what roads to avoid finding some idiot on the wrong side of the road thinking he's a mad driftah, yo.

At least learn to spell Touge right.
My sentiments exactley. Any mountain road is a touge road, are there any mountain raods in Toronto?

If he takes a half hour drive to Hamilton, he'll find a huge mountain, which is built on the top and bottom of a huge escartment (sp?!). Theres one road that has such tight twists, that all the guard rails look like rainbows from everyone trading paint with them.

Don't even think about trying to learn how to drift on public roads.

Take it to the track, autocross, or an sanctioned and organized drift event.

Seriously.

Sanctioned drifting doesn't exist in Canada, but there are open track events set up specifically for drifting. And come on, who would do it illegally when you can go to a track and toss your car as hard as you can for 4 hours for fifteen dollars. It's pathetic that I see people doing this crap on normal roads if you have that sort of oppurtunity available.

Anyways, all three tracks I mentioned have this and similar days throughout the summer. No excuse, kid.

Theres no excuse even if local tracks didn't exist, you do not treat public roads like an amusment park. People get hurt, often badly and they often arn't involved in the illegal racing, drifting or whatever it is going on. Even when people don't get hurt in a crash, something not belonging to the guy speeding or whatever has been hit, and as a result would be damaged.

Other than Mississauga Road in Mississauga (duh) there aren't many winding roads I can think of around here. You have to look really hard lately to find any road you can go over 50 km/h on in the GTA! And since we have no mountains in Toronto, we therefore have no mountain roads.

We DO however have plenty of toques...

'sides, that looks like some high-falutin' real estate you'd be driving through, there. Just asking for the police to call you?

I live near the Illinois River valley, and we have some nice twisty roads, some of them rural enough to get in trouble on. But I wouldn't do anything more than a nice drive with the windows open. and downhill, due to horsepower issues. That's beside the point, anyway.

You see, when you wrap your car around a tree, sometimes you don't make a sound to anyone's ears.

Where I live, I know of 4 mountain roads, plenty more around the area, even some with hairpins tight enough that you can see cars going the other way beside you as you go down. Whenever we go for a drive, we always take a couple of friends, and station them around corners, so they can tell us if the roads are clear or not. We also don't drive fast where there aren't any guardrails around, since trees and cars don't mix so well. Also, we don't do anything that we know we aren't very good at, so no drifting or extreme cornering speeds, always leaving enough grip in the tires to be able to move out of the way if anything happens. We also drive up and down one time to check the traffic, and if we see more than 2 or 3 cars, we don't do anything. There still is a risk, but we make sure that there is no chance for anyone else to be involved.

The closest track to us is around 4 hours away, so we try our best to keep things as safe as we can.

I know but which Escarpment? There are quit a few around Hamilton and Niagra area aren't there

I live in Mississauga. It's bad enough that people here don't know how to drive. I don't need an idiot trying to drift on public roads. Stay the hell away from my neighborhood. :grumpy:

who said anything about racing illegally lol??? I just asked a question.

Why else would you want to know if it's a 'tougue' or not?

Shannonville 👍 I've got a friend heading there soon for one of their events.

I'm glad that you're being safe, but seriously, you will have more fun at the track, annd you want have to worry about getting out of the way. Be sure not to get caught, or crash.

The escartment is actually huge, running from Dundas to St Catherines. I know of a couple around the Dundas area, just not the road names. Hamilton has a couple, but most are around pretty populated areas. If you look around the Upper James/Upper Wentworth area, towards the mountain, you'll find a couple of roads that basically zig zag back and forth down the hill. There is even one road that is covered in spare parts thanks to all the cars smashing off the guard rail in the winter. Also, check around the Stoney Creek area, the escartment isn't as steep in that area, which means the roads are a little longer and the turns are a little more forgiving.
