Taken from the article at Edmunds.com

Looking for a high-profile sports car to polish its image, Toyota is finishing up development of a Supra successor, code-named project 395.

When you think of exciting Toyota sports cars, one you can't ignore is the lovely 2000 GT featured in the 1967 James Bond film, You Only Live Twice. The new front-engine, rear-drive sports car will even borrow subtle styling cues from that icon.

Our sources suggest Toyota is looking at two distinct versions for production. One will use a 3.5-liter development of the new V6 (introduced in the 2006 Lexus GS 300), making 300 horsepower. The second, higher-intensity model could use the company's 4.3-liter V8, tweaked to give about 350 hp.

Styling features a long front deck and short rear, much like the Mercedes-Benz SLK, BMW Z4 and Honda S2000 that the new Toyota will compete against. We expect it will employ a conventional folding soft top.

Pricing will likely run close to $30,000 for the V6 (to rustle 350Z feathers) and into the low-$40,000 range for the V8. The Supra spirit will rise again! (if indeed it is a supra.)

No info?

And please stop posting so many threads in the Auto forum with little or no information!

Impressive, isn't it?

So what we've got is an artists impresion of what the next Toyota 2000GT could possibly maybe look like.

Damnit YW, so many threads with bull**** artists' impressions of cars. These people aren't car designers, that's why they work for Car Magazines. A 17 year old can do it.

The funny thing is on another car forum when only the cars pic was posted and the thread authors opionon given no one on that forum complained about the lack of data but instead were happy to see the pic.

[back on topic]

So is this 3.5 liter IS350/2000GT engine better than the VQ series engines?

The VQ's can't quite crest 300 hp (I think the highest availible in stock trim is 298 hp). Does Nissan have some plans to hold off the Toyota engine?

Well then maybe you shuld pack your bags up and move over there.

You can't create things like that because you lack the Photoshop skills and design and marketing sense. Se these? They're all done by a 17 year old.

Yeah I know I havent got photoshop skills but so what. You cant do it neither and thats like saying a 16 year old is playing for football but all the other 16 year olds aint.

What he's saying is to not make threads that have zero info, only some bogus pics. Who knows who made them.

If you had mentioned off the bat that there wouldn't be a supra but a 2000gt I wouldn't complain.

The 2006 350Z is now rated at 300hp, but thats tops. And yes, the new Toyota engine is a bit better. Power-wise, its not much more. But its got a few other nice bits to just squeeze past in stats.

All versions of the new Toyota 3.5L have VVT-i on both the intake and exhaust valves. The VQ35 just has the CVT on the intake with auto cars, but both on manual trans cars. Not much, but at least with all cars you'll get the full output.

And also, the new Toyota engine is a Direct Injection engine. Should give it a little better response, a bit more power and torque, and slightly better mileage. The G35, which is similar in size to the IS350 gets 18/25 with an auto. The auto-only IS350 gets 21/28. So, not a lot, 3mpg, but thats a good chunk better mileage with more power and torque.

The VQ is a great engine, no doubt about that. But, it is getting sneaky old. Not drastically, but compared to a brand new engine, it is starting to look dated with all the new tech the Toyota enigne is bringing to the table.

These Japanese V6es are getting pretty thirsty (I bet in heavy driving you will see a lot less than 20 mpg...probably closer to 12 or 15). I wonder how long before we see Toyota or Nissan putting cylinder deactivation on them as Honda has done.

I dont like the front end - looks too much like a crossfire or something it needs some ginormous fog lights to look like the 2000GT. Also it would be nicer in a coupe form IMO if its gonna be a sportscar/supra/2000GT (I know 2 convertible 2000gt's were made). I'd like to see a pic of the back end aswell.
