// Note. I realize this post is no longer necessary, as other have covered it, but I spent a good long time writing this up before the site went down. If I wasn't the first one, I never would have written it to begin with. If you have a problem with this, please just let the thread die. Thanks. :)

While I am aware there were at least two other threads saying something along the lines of "OMGz0rz T0y0t4 h45 GT4!!!" I actually received my copy of the demo disc as I am sure many of you soon will. I wanted to start a thread on the actual disc, not the hype about it. Anyway, here we go.

First off, sorry about the shoddy quality of these images. My TV card sucks.

toyota_new_york_ver.jpg

This is the title screen and suggests that there are more than one version going around. This says it is the New York version. I am outside of Boston so this seems reasonable. When I first saw that I figured New York would be one of the available tracks. I was wrong. You can race on Fuji Speedway and Grand Canyon, both of which have been polished a little more. The spectators at GC are still flat and there aren't even any jumping out in front of you, which I thought was odd.

It seems like there might be more courses on the disc. I can't tell if these are actuals tracks or just the intro videos that play on the start screen.

gt4.vol.gif

This is the specdb folder which I suspect gives you a good idea about what you can and can't tune in the final game.

When you choose your track you can only use an Auto car, you have the option to choose whether you want Toyota's VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) to be on or off as well as Street/Sport/Arcade tire choices. Racing tires are shown, but unavailable.

prius_in_car.jpg

This image is the "in car" view of the Prius. The car in the lower left is animated showing the power from the combustion and electric engines being delivered to the wheels. I can only assume when the battery meter runs out, it stops showing that yellow power being delivered.

The Prius drives like... a Prius, but oh well. It's reverse lights don't work :(

mtrc_in_car.jpg

Now this is just craaazy. The thing in the top right is a gravity mapping. When you are under accelleration it drops down, up when braking, then left and right as necessary. The four circular gauges are for each engine. They show braking, gas, if the VSC is working in that corner of the car, and I am not quite sure, but it looks like tire temperature and pressure as well.

mtrc_start_race.jpg

This gauge in the middle is only there at the beginning of the race, then it goes away. It states your ride height. At some point during a race on Grand Canyon it popped up on me and was red, saying I had a ride height of 200 something mm. I don't know if this is a warning it might flip, or just that the car would handle bad, but I didn't get a picture of that, sorry.

I could take this car up to a little over 150 in the straight at Fuji, not bad for a bobsled with wheels. Also, they changed the drivers from GT4:P (Japanese). They look a lot more... alien now.

The replay feature has a lot more options now. You can zoom in, choose a lot of angles, stop the music, pop up the HUD, all kinds of neat stuff.

I think that's it for my little Toyota write up. Feel free to make observations and ask questions.

Nice thanks for this...... did you notice that in the spec folder there is an option called RACINGMODIFY?. I'm not sure if this has been covered in other threads but isn't this the first proof (or at least hint) that cars will have racing body mods as in GT2?

It has been covered, as I recall mentioning it prior to now. Plus I have posted emails that I have on other threads(or boards....I post all over the net so sometimes I forget where I have been already) regarding racing and other visual mods for the vehicles. My contact at SCEA confirms that the inclusion of these type of mods are a goal for GT4 but how in depth they will be is undetermined as of yet. There are to be further announcements closer to the Nov. release date. Apparently this is one of the last features that is being added to the game(probably because of the amazing sucess of NFSU and its quickly approaching sequel) so it is still being worked on as the game is unfinished. So no one has the answer to this subject yet, regardless what you hear.

Yeah, I received mine a few days ago. It wasnt all that good since there was only 2 car and it was impossible to beat FUJI with only 120 second limitation even with the racing car thing. Anyway it was quite amuzing, and I cant wait for GT4.

I didnt really enjoy playing the demo, because its not even 1% of the actual game, but i did like the new tracks and the graphics and the meters, and many other new features i really liked, GT4 will be the bomb

Am I missing something here? You're under the impression that because a rediculous ammount of teen-beat kids were impressed with nfs-u's lame bodykit's and unrealistic gameplay, that somehow P.D would need racing aesthetics?

BAWHAHAHAHAHA

On topic: I have the demo disc and I'll admit, my expectations were high and therefore I was not impressed. At all. The Prius handles like a semi, and the go-cart thing is plain odd. I will never get the 10 minutes of my life back that I spent playing this demo, but I will make money off of it on eBay. :)

I'm in a bad mood.

What's under that "Races" tab? It looks like you can open it up.... 💡

Edit: anyone else see the "Tire Size" thingy? I wonder if we get to change our wheel size now!

GT3man2001,
I am pretty sure the information under races was the same as under crs above. I will check and let you know if it is different though.

Wow, so you can put huge oversized wheels on a small car, like some odd people do... Not that I don't welcome any extra customisations, of course. I think that could actually make some cars quite cool. All we need now is vast exhaust pipes and subwoofer kits and we have the lot!!

In the version i have 2 people run out in front of you, snap a quick picture and jump back to the walls.

Admittedly, they have tried in Prologue, but the characters are still actually 2D, and they have a continuous pattern. Like there's a woman who leans over, takes a picture and then leans back. Every like 5 seconds, exactly on cue. It doesn't really bug me. In fact its quite funny for a while, but it disgraces the name 'real' in 'real driving simulator'

Generalisation alert. You're naive if you think building upon the success of other games is a bad idea, and something PD wouldn't consider. They don't 'need' anything, but that doesn't mean it won't appear.

I don't really care what PD throws in with regard to modding the car. As long as it doesn't remove something else from the game, that's all that matters.
