// Note. I realize this post is no longer necessary, as other have covered it, but I spent a good long time writing this up before the site went down. If I wasn't the first one, I never would have written it to begin with. If you have a problem with this, please just let the thread die. Thanks.
While I am aware there were at least two other threads saying something along the lines of "OMGz0rz T0y0t4 h45 GT4!!!" I actually received my copy of the demo disc as I am sure many of you soon will. I wanted to start a thread on the actual disc, not the hype about it. Anyway, here we go.
First off, sorry about the shoddy quality of these images. My TV card sucks.
This is the title screen and suggests that there are more than one version going around. This says it is the New York version. I am outside of Boston so this seems reasonable. When I first saw that I figured New York would be one of the available tracks. I was wrong. You can race on Fuji Speedway and Grand Canyon, both of which have been polished a little more. The spectators at GC are still flat and there aren't even any jumping out in front of you, which I thought was odd.
It seems like there might be more courses on the disc. I can't tell if these are actuals tracks or just the intro videos that play on the start screen.
This is the specdb folder which I suspect gives you a good idea about what you can and can't tune in the final game.
When you choose your track you can only use an Auto car, you have the option to choose whether you want Toyota's VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) to be on or off as well as Street/Sport/Arcade tire choices. Racing tires are shown, but unavailable.
This image is the "in car" view of the Prius. The car in the lower left is animated showing the power from the combustion and electric engines being delivered to the wheels. I can only assume when the battery meter runs out, it stops showing that yellow power being delivered.
The Prius drives like... a Prius, but oh well. It's reverse lights don't work
Now this is just craaazy. The thing in the top right is a gravity mapping. When you are under accelleration it drops down, up when braking, then left and right as necessary. The four circular gauges are for each engine. They show braking, gas, if the VSC is working in that corner of the car, and I am not quite sure, but it looks like tire temperature and pressure as well.
This gauge in the middle is only there at the beginning of the race, then it goes away. It states your ride height. At some point during a race on Grand Canyon it popped up on me and was red, saying I had a ride height of 200 something mm. I don't know if this is a warning it might flip, or just that the car would handle bad, but I didn't get a picture of that, sorry.
I could take this car up to a little over 150 in the straight at Fuji, not bad for a bobsled with wheels. Also, they changed the drivers from GT4
(Japanese). They look a lot more... alien now.
The replay feature has a lot more options now. You can zoom in, choose a lot of angles, stop the music, pop up the HUD, all kinds of neat stuff.
I think that's it for my little Toyota write up. Feel free to make observations and ask questions.
