I guess it would be really cool to be able to lap the track as it is done in track days, starting on the straight and with slow and fast cars as traffic.
Something like this was attempted in GT5's AMG Driving Academy. The final part of the Nordschleife training requires you to take a full lap of it with simulated track day cars in the course. The description encourages you to overtake slower cars with real caution like you would drive in the autobahn. However you have a rolling start from the main starting point instead of the straight that is used in real life for track days.
I loved that bit in GT5. I hope to see it again soon.
As much as I can see your point, I believe you understand it is just not the same thing.
In a race, AI are competing with you - in a very bad way, I admit, but still competing. The other thing is that in this races, the cars are pretty much the same performance wise.
What I propose is different cars, with different performances, some really slow, some even faster than you depending on your car, and an AI not worried in competing, but letting you pass clearly if you are faster or passing you clearly if them are faster. I think it would be fun to be driving something slow and get passed by something faster and try to chase it for a while, like when Gan-san said he was chasing a Porsche.
IMO it would be a nice option for spending some time in the Ring and it would not be too difficult for PD to implement it.
Yes, I understand. I just had to make the joke. I'm with you all the way for a track day option, and would even like to have this option at every track.
It would also be pretty cool if during these track days, where you are carefully passing slower cars, and watching your mirror for/getting passed by faster machines, if sometimes (rarely) you may suddenly find yourself in a small battle with a random A.I. whom has a similar performance car as you. That would be hilarious, and would add a nice touch.
Realistic racing overall is MUCH higher on my list, but I've always been a fan of the track day atmosphere.
