I am currently doing my first 24 hour endurance race. It is currently raining and the moisture on the track is at 25% I switched from RS tires to intermediate tires, right away I noticed that I was getting less grip and could only get half the life out of the intermediate tires. My lap times were also much quicker with the RS tires in the wet than the intermediate tires.

Does anyone know when the best time to change from regular racing tires to intermediate then to full rain tires?

Thanks in advance for the help

I think it's a glitch where the RS tires provide the best grip even when it's wet. Keep the RS tires on throughout the race.

Ok so when is the best time to switch to full rain tires?

I'm not so sure, as I don't do much rain racing. Just do it when you feel the racing softs aren't providing enough grip for you to drive comfortably any more.

I did the 24h LaSarthe the other day with my Audi R10 '06.
I used RS from 0-60%
Intermediate from 60-85%
Rain from 85-100%

This may not be the correct numbers for all cars, but this was giving me the best grip/tyre life in this particular race.

this is a good guide and works for me too.

however, all this goes out the window if Grip is NOT set to Real. If it's not, you may as well use RS tires throughout.

I am using the 908 HDi FAP Team Peugeot Total '10, grip is set to real, and I using no aids except ABS @ 1. This I was I found it so strange that intermediate were actually worse than RS. I was afraid to even try rain tires.

I guess I will let the rain get worse and see how it goes.

Thanks for the help.

I'll be interested to hear your thoughts. It's rubbish that RS work so well on the other grip level so when I do use the real grip setting hopefully your findings will be of great help.

For the 24hr A-Spec races(since it has low grip reduction): RS until 60%, then Inters on front, RS on rear for 60-100%. Just be sure to be careful with wheelspin. At LaSarthe you should get a full load of fuel out before the tires go away at 100% track moisture(11-12 laps?). If it's Nurburgring, I don't know about the 908, I'm doing it right now with the GTR TC, have 100% track moisture for the last 5 hours, and I keep more than 50% rubber left for the full 5 laps of fuel it takes using Inters on front and Softs on the rear.

I suppose you could use softs on front, but these tracks have tight areas where understeer could cause an off. The full wets will be more than adequate, but so slow as you will over run them... unless you want to go much slower.
