Transfer data help.

I have a question. I plan on going to my dad's house for the winter and I plan on transferring a couple games to my USB card so I can update them. Thing is though, I need to find out rather if I can just transfer my game data or if I need to transfer both my game and my saved data. Plus, would also want to know if I can download updated games from another PS3 without causing complications and errors to my current data. Otherwise, can I download just the updates or do I have to actually download the updates while I'm playing the game. Thanks in advance. May not be able to respond for a bit.:)
 
If you're going to be away for a while take anything you think you might need.
You'll only kick yourself when you can't do it because you forgot one little thing.
Also if you create a duplicate profile for both consoles you should be able to access all downloadable game updates/purchases from either console.
My advice is to take ANY data with you that you think you'll need, that is personal to your console such as game saves etc.
