Transitioning from pad to wheel. Any tips?

A month later and I'm still faster with the gamepad:(
And I haven't been practising with the pad either, that was only the second time I've touched it for track time and I was more than half a second quicker in the Citroën GT3.

It's just so much more responsive and slides that I have no hope of correcting on the wheel are easy to catch on the game pad. I do have my wheel sensitivity at maximum.

Help

Sounds odd maybe but just keep practicing over and over again. Some people need longer some shorter, like in real life;) just don’t give up:tup:

Correcting driving errors might be faster with the gamepad..

I found out myself I really gotta learn to drive all over again with the wheel. Going around Nurburing in a N100 might be dull but mastering a N100 with no assists on is a much quicker path to fast times than learning it by going straight to Gr.1 cars.

I still have to keep TC on 2 on road tracks. Rally was much much much easier to master.

It took me about 6 months to become quicker on a wheel.. it doesn't just happen overnight, patience is the key and in the end you'll be smoother and faster.

Got myself a G29 and waiting on my Omega stand and trying to get used to driving with it.
So any suggestions on the best way to learn again? Certain modes, cars, tracks?
And what settings for the wheel, I think there's two things which can be adjusted but I don't know what they do.
I recommend running through the circuit experience with your wheel, then take your talents to sport mode

I've had my g29 for a month and now re getting gold in driving school.

But I can't race for c##p in sport mode yet :(

I'm still flipping between pad and G29. Apart from not being very good, my problem with racing with the wheel is that I can be slower to react (with steering) to rather sudden events. Hopefully once I migrate from ironing board to a Wheel Stand Pro I can get more (quality) practice in.

Leave the ironing Board for the wife, and just get yourself a great piece of furniture called Kallax. For just 19,90€ you‘ll get an awesome Wheelstand, trust me;) The Pedals are screwed on the floor the whole thing is super stable and the best it’s a bargain.

You are used to full steering lock with the flick of a thumb, just slamming a car around a track playing a game.

With a wheel you drive not play. You most likely enter turns too fast(brake too late) , and mash the throttle down to soon and to quick. With a wheel you can modulate the brake and or throttle smoothly in and out of turns. Smooth is fast. Just my opinion from my own experiences going from pad to wheel.

Smooth is fast.

I made the switch with GT6. It took me about a month before I was faster with the wheel than the DS3. As I recall, catching slides was the hardest thing to adjust to. With the controller you could go from lock to lock with the flick of the thumb, but it takes time to turn the wheel. Once I got used to the wheel it was the best decision I've made in GT.
