I think this format is awesome, it really does give us an excellent chance to show what our racing skills are.

Refferencing t13r, I would like to mention this one concept... "with enough time anyone can get any time."

Now, while that is debatable, it really does say something that carries incredible weight.

Fact is, when we have a full week to race, we can learn every little bit of a track and slowly master it. With that fact in mind, it is possible that even a slow racer could match the times of a fast racer.

However, with only an hour, racers would be forced to put forth their best initial efforts and hence, give a showing of that racers true skills.

Another way to look at this is simply the situation based on the time a racer has to actually run a race.

I.E.
I go to school full time and work as a dishwasher part time. Does that leave me any time to race? Well, yes, but not nearly as much as I would like.

Then take the average fella with no job and no school to attend. Do you think he is gonna have more or less time to race than I do?

Well in this scenerio, I might be faster than the other guy but thanks to my limited time, I will have one hell of a hard time matching up to his times.

And thats what this really boils down to.

Time.

When you have all the time in the world to perfect something, it's hard not to be really good compared to the guy that didn't have any time.

Bottom line: I support this format and will be in on it every chance I have.

Any help I can give... it's here for ya, so just ask.

Then again... odp just pointed out something important... will this be in place of, or in addition to.

If this is in place of, I might not be as hot on the idea. I would still support it, but I just wouldnt be as happy about it.

I think this would serve as an excellent addition to the normal weekly, not a replacement.

Yeah I'll give it a shot Boom....... ummmm just tell me one thing cuz i'm stupid and cant figure out timezones. What time is it going to be our time? Hopefully I dont got work though..... they got me setting and serving down at Southeast. Who knows the schedule? lol

We are 2 hours behind the East Coast. So if the race started at 1200 Eastern time, it would be 1000 for us.

let's see... saturday, 11am EST... oooh! that's 1am sunday for me! as long as i'm not too drunk, i'm in!

i think it'll be interesting to see these results. like most of you have already said, if anyone practices enough they should be able to get a pretty decent time. but it's not really an indication of their true skill.

take me for example, i spent a couple days on the registration hot lap of midfield in the the evo, and i was placed in Division 1!! my first week i placed last in the division, then the second week i was behind a few seconds as well. after being demoted to Div 2, i'm still only in the middle of the pack.

i think we should at least try the new format. if we don't like it, we can always go back, or try something different again. -syn

Damn, you just made me realise, It would be 16:00 for me, not a chance. I'm out playing snooker than every Saturday and I'm not leaving my mates to play GT3.

You are correct in thinking that this is in place of the current format, but only for that one week. It does appear that many people aren't going to be able to connect up to the time frame given. Which certainly gives rise to the thought of running it as a separate event.

I do plan on hosting these on a more regular occasion outside of the weekly races. It's a format that I really enjoyed in in doing it last weekend.

Im with ya alta... it really is an excellent format.

Dec 23, 10:00 AM... Im in. :D

Please post the exact time and date for the race. I'll worry about the car and track when they are posted.

I'd love to do this, but I can't. I'm at work at that time. :(

After reviewing this and seeing the responses, it's likely better to run this as a separate event outside of the weekly races.

In fact, that's what I'm planning on doing this weekend. Check this thread for the full story: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/t-35557.html

This could almost become another series. I like the idea but time zones really come into play on this one which, as has been noted elsewhere, makes it difficult.
If there was a way to monitor or track what time racers get the track information then you could announce the DAY the race is to take place then, once the track info has been read by someone, they have one hour to register a time.
It'll proabably mean some sort of coding somewhere so it's probably a non-starter.
But it'd get around the time zone problem.

I'd be interested in giving it a go but it's that time of year... I'll be visiting the folks and so it's gonna be dificult. I'll just have to see how the week turns out.
