What does everyone see in this car? Back in high school I think there was 4 of them that were in our parking lot. They aren't that great of a car. I know for one they are very heavy, one of the Stealths at our school belongs to a buddy of mine.

Sure it looks cool and all, but for a performance car? It's pretty much worthless in my opinion. But hey I guess is each to own.

I'm tired of people knocking these cars because they were heavy. They were also very powerful - 320hp made it feel pretty damn light. As the future owner of a 3000GT VR-4 I can tell you I've driven several and the 'heavy' comments are a load.

A future owner, heh?

The VR-4s are very nice cars and are actually somewhat under appreciated with the Stealth.

Well I looked them up and the 3 engine choices were
- 3.0L V6 164hp (Base Model)
- 3.0L V6 222hp (R/T Model)
- 3.0L V6 300hp (Turboed)

They weighed in at 3801lbs. Which means the power to weight ratio on the turboed model would be 12.67lbs per horsepower. But ya I'm confident you can do the math :D.

I know my buddy had the base one (164hp) so thats a little over 23.17lbs per horsepower. Which is aweful, I mean my truck has 17.65lbs per horsepower and its slow!

So yes if you got the turboed Stealth you had a quick little car, but for $30,000 back in 1991 I could think of at least 10 better cars to buy with that money. Hell $30,000 today would buy you more of a car then that.

I'm pricing VR-4 Spyders as we speak.

Agreed completely - they're great cars.

Well obviously the base models were slow, I'm not about to argue that. $30000 today could buy you a better car due to the proliferation of cheap, powerful cars - but in 1991 the $30400 AWD turbocharged Stealth RT was a very good vehicle, and now it's a very good used deal. Say what you will, the turbo models rock.

Still trying to knock these cars, sad.. aren't you the same guy that said his anemic 190hp Extreme Blazer could beat a VR-4?

The early model TT/VR-4 made 300hp, this was eventually bumped to 320 and the 5-speed was replaced with a much better 6-speed. Yes they are heavy, but like the MKIV Supra they hide the weight extremely well.

Uhhh I don't think I said that I could beat a VR-4 and if I did I was being sarcastic or something. I just don't really care for these cars, I don't think they are worth the money, used they go for 8,000. I'm not paying 8 grand for a car thats over 10 years old unless its a classic or something worth paying that much money for.

Plus I don't see why you need to act like an ass? I mean I'm entitled not to like a certian car aren't I?

Oh ya one more thing, its a Blazer Xtreme. There is no E in front of it. I didn't name it, no I'm not sounding cool by saying Xtreme, its just whats badged on the side of the truck. I'm sure it was and honest mistake.

Some Stealth history:

A yellow 1991 Dodge Stealth R/T was chosen by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to be the official Pace Car for the 1991 Indianapolis 500. Unfortunatly no one bothered to mention to the IMS that the Dodge Stealth was built in Japan by Mitsubishi, even though it had the Dodge badge. To date (and this is still true) every Indianapolis 500 Pace Car has been from an American brand and built in America.

To try and cover up this mess, IMS asked Chrysler to provide them with a replacement. So Chrysler handed over their prototype mules of the upcoming Dodge Viper RT/10 to be used as Pace Cars. They quickly painted IMS logos and Pace Car lettering onto the cars and sent them out unmodified, the first Pace Cars ever to not need any changes to handle the duties.

However another tradition for the Indianapolis 500 is that the winner of the race receives the pace car as part of his prize. Since the Viper RT/10s were test mules still needed by Chrysler and not truely completed vehicles, Chrysler instead handed over the yellow 1991 Dodge Stealth R/T to the race's winner, the only official use the car ever fulfilled, except for some early publicity shoots showing it as the pace car and later being used as a parade car alongside the Viper RT/10.

My next door neighbour has a dark green Dodge Stealth. He drove it through 2 and a ahlf feet of snow for a week because he had to get to his hockey games. Now that's Canadian. And it was perfectly capable too.

Take a deep breath, and read my last post.

I could care less if you like the cars or not. The reason I checked you, is because you called one of the most underestimated performance cars in the history of performance cars "pretty much worthless". And you have what appears to be ZERO personal experience with the vehicle. on most automotive forums you would be made fun of, and then banned. not because of your opinion, but because you talk out of your a**.

Extreme - Xtreme, don't point the finger at me because you drive a vehicle with a misspelled name.
*cough sorry excuse for a Typhoon cough*

sorry VipFREAK, I had to do it! :)

Wow, what a fanboy.

I think we should keep the "fanboy" comments in the GT4 forums.

I've seen plenty of them crawling through several inches of snow on Boston's streets (as RWD SUV's spin their tires uselessly).

Because you know this is such a diehard automotive site. And I said my buddy had one, I helped him with some stuff to it. I never owned one because I didn't like them. Never wanted one. Plus I never gave any technical information on the thing that I didn't look up. I looked up the horsepower numbers and weight.

I merely gave my opinion on the car, M5 answered and I answer back.

Oh one more thing the Xtreme and Typhoon are in different catagories but I think you know that as well.

I'm kinda lost anyway...

So, yeah I realize that the Stealth really is a Mitsu but I did like the "Dodge" version a lot better than the Mitsu. I didn't know about the Indy story though, thanks The 359, interesting. As for everyone else I'm steering clear of the battle field.

It's just a car that I saw that still stands out to this day btw, I only like the 1992 year it's the best looking IMO.

That's quite steep. Did they sell well?
In a word, no. The mid-nineties wasn't a good time for small, expensive performace cars, even if they were a technological tour-de-force.

For almost 65k it wouldn't sell well in today's market either. I think people would take a Vette if they had that to drop on a car.

IMO...

this is my favorite version of the 3000GT, 1999 version...for the revised back end and headlights, and i adore that gigantic spoiler :)
the 1999 version of the 3000GT is a unique year, this was the only year the 3000GT looked like this, plus the last year of the car...

P.S. why did they ditch the car in 99? :indiff:

whats the difference between these 2 GT4 fans?

in 1991...when the stealth/3000GT first made their appearance, it was a release of automotive technology, for a car in 1991 to have all that the stealth/3000GT was nearly non-existent...

i say when they came out with the car back in 1991 it was a benchmark of automotive technology

and quit gripin and complainin about the weight, if you dont like the weight, go cry about it, get yourself a civic or somethin, as for the stealth/3000GT fans, we will continue to adore these beautiful and awesome cars

(not to mention i loved taking the 3000GT on rally courses in GT3, cant wait to on GT4) :)

No, I meant have you checked the weight on the two game cars you showed. Maybe the difference between the two is that one is lighter than the other.

If you want a performance car, weight should be one of your priorities.

And the difference between the GTO Twin Turbo and GTO Twin Turbo MR is probably similar to the difference between the Evo and Evo MR. Just weight saving and aerodynamic upgrades.

Usually MR models of cars are beter, but I don't know the details of how the MR is better in this case (if it is...). I have a lot of appreciation for heavy powerful cars, but still not big on the Dodge Stealth. Though in it's Mitsubishi trim I'd own one.

Isn't the VR4 more of a touring car than a track racing car? That would do a lot to explain the weight of it.

I like them. They're damn pleasant to look at and I never get tired of looking at them. Plus the whole 320hp and a 6 speed tranny with 4 wheel steering is kinda neat too 👍. Plus the resale value means that you can pick up a VR4 in good condition for a hell of a lot less than a mid-90's BMW M3... though I still love the older M3's...
