A new American supercar is coming, according to its manufacturers. The Trion Nemesis claims to offer 2,000 horsepower from a twin-turbo V-8 as well as a "Predator Mode."

Along with its monstrous horsepower output, the Trion Nemesis is claimed to be capable of 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of more than 270 mph. An eight-speed sequential transmission and lightweight carbon fiber body and chassis "with Inconel elements" is also part of the package.

Even better, it can seat drivers as tall as 6'4" in any of its myriad forms, and even seven-footers when purchased as a hard top!

The design telegraphs its supercar intentions, to be sure, from the "front growl" to the large rear wing.

But what about that "Predator Mode" function? It is a comprehensive re-tune of the car, adjusting not just ride height, supsension settings, exhaust sound, and rev limits, but also interior illumination. It will "suit your driving style down to a tee!" says Trion.

Sounds great, right? Looks pretty good, too? Well, don't get your hopes up. While the latest press release from Trion claims all of these features, the Nemesis is nothing but pixels on a screen and dreams in the minds of the designers--much like Trion's office building, in fact.

Trion's web page lists its location as an office building in Irvine, California. An image accompanies that address listing of the company's web page. But a quick trip to the site on Google Street View reveals that the building doesn't look like the one pictured, nor does it bear the Trion Supercars name and logo. The company does offer some explanation for its misdirection, however, stating, "This facility serves as a temporary home with over 10,000 square feet of engineering, manufacturing, general office and conference rooms to develop the Nemisis prototype. This facility is the headquarters of one of our major design partners. TSC is utilzing this space in order to reduce design time and expenses."

We wish Trion the best--really, we do; who wouldn't love to see another American supercar?--but we're not holding our breath, either. For now, and likely for the foreseeable future, file this one under "vaporcar."

First impression: Another one?

I have a new supercar, it's called the Furi Shed Special, it's made from cast off British Leyland parts, does 0-60 in 4.0 with several Rover engines sandwiched together, and turbocharged to get an amazing 300hp, and it holds about the same chances of being made as this.

No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No.

At least the Devel was actually built. Of course, it won't get anywhere near the claimed top speed and horsepower output, but it is still one significant step further than just a simple rendering.

I would be surprised if we'll ever hear from this Trion again. Rendering a car is easy, building a functioning real-life one is a lot harder.

I think I need to start my own supercar company

Just render a car that looks supercar-y with various bits of other cars fused together.

Power it with a twin-turbo v8 from 'Murica, add a ZF 8 speed and add words like carbon fiber, light, fast, any number HP you want and make sure to give them a street address of a place google hasn't been to.

Well they didn't go overboard by claiming "Predator Mode" activates a cloaking device or plasma cannons. For something that's little more than a flight of fancy, it sure lacks imagination.

I will just pick a random empty warehouse in Albuquerque and go from there.

Actually, this is possible. Look at the Venom. It is not that hard to strap a TT'd V8 to a chassis. 2000hp is obtainable. Also, tis fools day. They can do better than that.

Mine's bigger! No, mine is!

Missing in the article the asking price of just $4 million, and then they flop after making just three vehicles, but that's because the motoring press suffered a catastrophically slow news day.
