Does anyone else have an issue with their 320GB Slim PS3 or any other beeping 3 times?

Each time i shut it down by button or quit back to XMB my PS3 beeps 3 times.

I do make sure to make sure there is no HDD activity when I do this.

Happens to me from time to time. I`m not concerned about it.

(Slim 500GB)

Guess it`s the wrong section to post though.

I once had this, on a 500GB Super Slim. It is a normal thing - it is just a notice that the system's shutdown is taking longer than usual, possibly due to disk access. ;)

Happens to my fat PS3 all the time. Pretty much every single time I access trophies list or XMB the game freezes and the PS3 triple beeps.

This has happened to me once, but this was after I changed my driver outfit, went back to the menu and quit the game. When you go back to the menu, the game is probably still saving data and accessing the hard drive. My suggestion is to wait a few more seconds in the menu before exiting the game.

It happens to me often but only if the system has crashed. It very rarely does it if all is running smoothly. If it does beep 3 times, next time it's switched on it runs a system check for corruption.

Restore your PS3 OS (from the system settings menu) but back up all your saves games for all your games first though. Afterwards, all game data and updates will need to be re-installed.

yeah does it to me alot of the time, not all the time but alot when shutting the ps3 down while the game is running... fat 30gb PS3

Yeap - I have had this happen a few times when closing down the game, less so in the last couple of days. Game save is backed up though.

May not be relevant, I know that I need to change my hdd as I suspect that the one I have in my 80gb fat is suffering from a few bad sectors. (I recently put an old 500gb hdd in that I had spare)

Yep multiple times, I think because we close it when that yellow HDD blink thing is flashing.

Will like someone to confirm though.

Yes. Triple beep gives us a signal that you force-quit the console.
As in using the PS button to shut down whilst the machine was in the middle of something - say, loading a screen.

You will usually get a message, when you restart, to the effect that the console wasn't shut down properly, and a recommendation to restore may follow.

It happened to me a few times, nothing to worry about. However, if it's happening every time like you say, then I'd contact Sony about if it's still under warranty.

I have 2 cech-2001 slims 120gb. One of them does this all the time and frequently locks up and displays ps3 was not shutdown properly checking file system.

The other one has never locked up once and has never beeped or done the above.

I have formatted the system. Doesnt help.

Very weird I guess its down to differences in production. Poor quality control.

My slim does this sometimes but it seems to be fine, Nothing to worry about atm.

EDIT: just remembered that its locked up a few times during the last 3 months, I hope its ok. I don't want another one to die on me like my fat did.

sid_chiclana - So do I. It's the usual digital paranoia that computers/consoles are programmed with from birth.

Though when they really have a problem and they are actually meaning what they are whining about only the digital psychotherapists will know.

I have force-quit my consoles several times.

I did thrash one that way - but at that time it wasn't loading a page - it was auto-saving at shutdown, and I hit the power button because I was in a hurry. That was a PS2, though, not a PS3. I was in the middle of playing GT4.
When I returned and tried it to put it on, it was dead.

You can imagine my dismay; had to go out right away and get another PS2. Give up my GT4 with 50 M and 12 stealths? No way.

Force-quitting is dangerous. Use your discretion.

Sometimes the consoles give you little choice. Like I said one of my 12gb slims locks up and you have to unplug it. Really frustrating and the consoles are clunkly and slow to respond as well.

If it locks up and refuses to respond to the PS button it's best to walk away. It can take several minutes, but it most usually returns back to the XMB.

I'm really not looking forward to the Rise of the Machines. :scared:
Though I love using them.

I can assure you thats not the case. My ps3 has locked up permanently requiring a power cut by removal of the cable. I know what you are talking about. What happens is you think it has frozen. The console beeps 3 times and reboots into XMB. Doesnt always happen.

How long did you let it have its way before you cut the cord?

This is what happens to me. It only happens very rarely, but it has happened more in GT6 than any other game.

My 80 GB fatty (the one they were selling before the slims came out) did that last night. Exited the game and the system rebooted. I quickly reloaded the game to make sure I didn't lose anything, but everything was fine. I think I'll copy the save file over to a memory stick just to be on the safe side in the future though.

xSnakex -Thanks for the confirmation. Yes, that happened to me once - I left it on for several hours - no go. I had to power off. Didn't have to yank the cord, though. That's a killer.

I think sometimes you can fix problems like this by replacing the hard disk with another one. Thought sometimes like in my case I believe its a problem with the internal ps3 hardware that locks up.

I have had my whole PS3 shut down twice while messing with changing diver outfits. I was actually looking for a thread on this problem when I came across your post. Would anybody know if this is a glitch with the game, or is my PS3 getting old and over heating? I've had it since the first 6 months the PS3 came out.
