You will usually get a message, when you restart, to the effect that the console wasn't shut down properly, and a recommendation to restore may follow.
sid_chiclana - So do I. It's the usual digital paranoia that computers/consoles are programmed with from birth.
Though when they really have a problem and they are actually meaning what they are whining about only the digital psychotherapists will know.
I have force-quit my consoles several times.
I did thrash one that way - but at that time it wasn't loading a page - it was auto-saving at shutdown, and I hit the power button because I was in a hurry. That was a PS2, though, not a PS3. I was in the middle of playing GT4.
When I returned and tried it to put it on, it was dead.
You can imagine my dismay; had to go out right away and get another PS2. Give up my GT4 with 50 M and 12 stealths? No way.
Force-quitting is dangerous. Use your discretion.
If it locks up and refuses to respond to the PS button it's best to walk away. It can take several minutes, but it most usually returns back to the XMB.
I can assure you thats not the case. My ps3 has locked up permanently requiring a power cut by removal of the cable. I know what you are talking about. What happens is you think it has frozen. The console beeps 3 times and reboots into XMB. Doesnt always happen.
This is what happens to me. It only happens very rarely, but it has happened more in GT6 than any other game.It happens to me often but only if the system has crashed. It very rarely does it if all is running smoothly. If it does beep 3 times, next time it's switched on it runs a system check for corruption.
Hours. During an important update or save event. How long did you let it have its way before you cut the cord?
I think sometimes you can fix problems like this by replacing the hard disk with another one. Thought sometimes like in my case I believe its a problem with the internal ps3 hardware that locks up.xSnakex -Thanks for the confirmation. Yes, that happened to me once - I left it on for several hours - no go. I had to power off. Didn't have to yank the cord, though. That's a killer.
This has happened to me once, but this was after I changed my driver outfit, went back to the menu and quit the game. When you go back to the menu, the game is probably still saving data and accessing the hard drive. My suggestion is to wait a few more seconds in the menu before exiting the game.
