triple beep on shutdown

I have had my whole PS3 shut down twice while messing with changing diver outfits. I was actually looking for a thread on this problem when I came across your post. Would anybody know if this is a glitch with the game, or is my PS3 getting old and over heating? I've had it since the first 6 months the PS3 came out.

In my case, I think I went back to the menu and exited the game too quickly after returning. At this point, the game would still be saving data and accessing the hard drive, so the triple beeps were to be expected. I doubt there is a problem with the PS3 in this situation.

This is what happens to me. It only happens very rarely, but it has happened more in GT6 than any other game.

GT6 crashes my fat PS3 a lot, especially when in the process of receiving a car. I'm still not sure if it's a game issue or not because my PS3 is very old but it's a bit odd that it can stay on for hours on other games without crashing.

Same here, I have had no problems with GT5 even. Even after running it for over twenty four hours while I had my Bob run the 24 hours of Nurburgring. So I would hope to say its only a minor glitch for now. Its funny it only has happened so far when messing around with changing suits.

Mine does it only on shutdown, and I have the digital version. If your PS3 will not shut off NEVER unplug it. Hold the power button for 15 seconds and it will shut down no matter what. Directly unplugging can damage the Hard Drive. Holding the power button to shut down will ensure the HDD shuts down with the system correctly, or incorrectly since there was a hardware fault somewhere.

I think sometimes you can fix problems like this by replacing the hard disk with another one. Thought sometimes like in my case I believe its a problem with the internal ps3 hardware that locks up.

I dont think it is Hardware related.

I get these crashes / freezes frequently SINCE I HAVE INSTALLED Gran Turismo 6.
Never had them before.

The only other thing which could be related to this annoying **** is the PS3s Firmware.
I remember installing an update a week before GranTurismo 6..

It did this to me before yesterday as well every now and then, 120gig slim

but I opened the PS3 up and cleaned it and SO FAR I haven't had that happen to me yet.

My 320 GB Slim've done it some times as well. Fingers crossed version 1.02 fixes this totally.

160GB Slim.

Only when the game is stuck and I press the reset button. Happens rarely. Usually when playing Skyrim and it freezes.

EDIT: Sorry. I got off topic. I guess I'll have to see when I play GT6. So far this only happens when I'm playing a glitchy game. Again; very rarely.

I only get this when I try to quit the game. It's not saving or anything, I'm just sitting in the main menu. I just press the PS button and then quit game. Some times it doesn't, but it usually does. Some times it does the file check thing too

Had this with a few other games as well on my 80GB 'fat' model (before it died the first time.)

Hasn't done it since (it used to do it with GT5 in particular). Will update post when PS3 is updated (taken to a friend's house... gonna be some big patches & my internet is too slow.)

No its definitely hardware because like I said I got 2 ps3 slims at the same time same model. Throughout all the years of updates one always does what i described and the other never has.

Installing GT6 has NOTHING to do with the way your system runs outside of GT6.
That was 4.53 you probably updated to. It was an optional update and you should never have updated it.

What model ps3 do you have?

Three beeps usually an indication that there is some sort of communication failure between the hard drive and the motherboard, could be a bad HDD not heating issues related to the dreaded YLod.

PS. If what people are describing, then multiple hard shutdown on a mechanical hard drive
can damage the disk eventually. If it was me a would make sure I have done backup of my
PS3 soon.

Not sure about you all, but mine is still 3 beeps and shutting off. I have athe 80gig fatty, and am wondering if changing the HDD would fix this. Has anbody had any luck doing this?
