OK so today I got an iPod touch with iOS 5.1 and I Installed iTunes on my computer and attached the iPod to my computer. My Ipod registered on iTunes but just got stuck at this:

It says follow the on screen instructions but there aren't any instructions to follow. The iPod screen looks like this:

It will not go past that screen. For more things that I have tried, go to my profile page and view my conversation with Matt.

Thanks for any help

Did you try going to "My Computer" and formatting the ipod? I know that may be a bit drastic but itunes will be able to recover it.

Tried that and there wasn't that option. I'm probably going to take it back to where I bought it and see if they can find anything wrong with it. I've also tried on 2 different computers.

Never EVER try to format an iPod through Windows 'My Computer', you will brick the device permanently because its not a simple HDD or USB stick and has hidden operating system files etc. I think Apple has now prevented people from doing this by removing the option.

It might be a problem with the iPod or with iTunes, I would definitely take it back if it hasn't worked on 2 other computers. Within iTunes you can click 'restore iPod' but it seems yours can't even get that far in to even select that option.

There's a way to kinda, "restore" or set the iPod without losing anything
If you hold down the Power and Home button, for a couple seconds until it turns off, then keep holding it until it reboots, it may fix the problem.

Mine did the same thing a while ago, just using a different firmware, so I'm not sure if it'll work.

I have sorted this now. It turns out that our measly 5.8Mbs Download dspeed was crap and it couldn't download. I took it to my local iStore and registered it and installed iOS 5.1 on it. Thanks for all the help guys
