I'm in the US and have been playing all the cars shifting right handed. Being the OCD kinda guy I am it was bugging me that most of the cars in the game are right hand drivers. Just for kicks I put the shifter on the left and loaded up an import. I won't be doing any drifting like this but it's not as bad as I thought it be.
Ever try it?

I live in the US as well and have always driven manuals LHD. My friend's uncle is exorbitantly wealthy and imports certain cars from the UK that he purchased to here. I recall he had a Nissan Silva the S15 model and had it redressed to meet the BS US safety and emission standards, and its completely RHD. Its not that bad, but you do have to get used to it. The shift pattern is the same as a LHD car with the only difference being you sit on the other side. Though this does mean instead of going first towards you, on a RHD the first is still in the same but its going away from you now, get it?

Though don't be like me when I went tracking in it, and I kept on lowering the windows on my right instead of changing gear on the left, and I shifted into 5th instead of 1st, but you'll be fine, its a game.

At least it wasn't 1st instead of 5th.
The other day after a marathon session of GT6 I got in to my little Mazda 3 with a 5 speed to run to the store. I hopped on the highway got to speed hit 5th gear and caught myself just before I went to 6th. :P Slamming the car into reverse at 65 may have been the end of the car and/or me. :P

Yeah, as Narbin said, I'm pretty sure you can't do that. In the 3, trying to go from 5th to R should result in forcing you back into 4th. I have a 6 and that's what happens.

Mazda 3 don't have safety feature where u can't throw it in reverse by accident?
I have no idea, Never tried it and don't want to.
Good to know the car will protect itself from me if i happen to do it some day I guess.

I thought I was the only one who did that.

I've been wanting to try this but I've been driving only with my left hand for a long while now that it'll be hard to adjust. Left hand on the wheel, right on the stick (sequential), that's the way it'll stay for me!

No G27 here, T500/TH8RS.

But I lived (and drove a stick) in Japan for many years before returning to USA...
...the H-pattern orientation is the same no matter what side its on...
...so its one of the things I really enjoy about GT5/GT6.

It should be a mechanical lockout. It should work with the car not even running.

I've tried putting my manual car into reverse on the highway. There was a grinding noise and it wouldn't go in gear. The way a manual transmission is designed, it's not possible to engage reverse while moving forward (at least at speed).
