Hello! I've been searching everywhere and I can't find a simple explanation, is there a decent cheap (around 100-200 bucks) Desktop Monitor? I want to play Gran Turismo in good quality and a TV is to much. I was wondering if any of you guys had experience with this. I am looking for something with a HDMI IN. So I can plug my PS3 in and hop onto my wheel and play. Is the picture 1080p on the monitors? Also is there a chance there is a cheap one with DVI IN and HDMI IN (it's not that important but just wondering).

Thanks a lot.

Looky here.

Sounds to good to be true, and what is ASUS?

Edit: Wow that thing really sounds amazing!! But 23.6 Inches a little on the big side, I don't know if I can cram it on my desk, possibly but, I will figure that out another time, anyways...

I was just looking here http://bestbuy.ca

And found: http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/acer-acer-22-lcd-monitor-with-5ms-response-time-et-ex3wp-d01-black-et-ex3wp-d01/10150834.aspx?path=947dd1cfca88e7292b3ddb8be15aa1a7en02

It fits the price range, it's 22 inches NOT 1080P HD though...

Also I want to get this straight

Is "digital" saying it's HDMI??

and is "analog" DVI??

And how is sound supposed to work if a monitor does not have speakers? I have my own separate speakers but I can't plug them into the PS3. They don't work with optical cables. The just have that green audio jack. Is there a place I can plug my headphones/Speakers into the monitor?

EDIT2: what is HDCP????

Everything you've always wanted to know about ASUS but were afraid to ask. In short, they've been making computers and parts for over 20 years.

Fortunately the 23.6" has a little brother - a 21.5" for $20 less.

If nothing else, because of the 1680 x 1050 res I'd look elsewhere. Like the new one I linked above. :D

I'm not entirely positive, but I think that HDMI and DVI are both digital connections whereas a DB-15 is analog. Essentially, the only difference between HDMI and DVI is you need a seperate audio cable with DVI and HDMI carries both audio and video.

I'm not aware of a 3.5mm to Toslink adapter but I'll do some looking around.

Edit: I'm not sure why I didn't think of this earlier but you can always set up the PS3 to output audio over the RCA cables and use an adapter like this to convert the female RCA to female 3.5mm. Monoprice is a hell of a lot cheaper but unfortunately I can't find the double female adapter, only a male/female meaning you'd also need a coupler. On the plus side, both items are cheaper than the one from B&H.

Everything you've always wanted to know about HDCP but were afraid to ask. As the name states, it's digital content protection. Essentially, the signal is encrypted and the display must be able to decrypt it to display properly.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Is there anything for the sound I can do with these?? I just have these jacks and plugs laying around my house:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=ProductDetail&A=showItemLargeImage&Q=&sku=408126&is=REG (3.5 end)

one of these

(3.5 / 3.5 end and jack)
I need help with this (the audio part) but I'm satisfied with everything so far!

Edit: also it's weird how I love messing with audio cables, I'm not joking, playing with these connectors and puzzles is a lot of fun for me! Second, all the stuff I know on audio and screen resolution is weird since I'm 14, and I'm getting all my money to buy this stuff from
babysitting :D

PROBLEM SOLVED THEY HAVE A AUDIO JACK BUILT IN!!! PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!

TB you are a legend. I have almost the exact same monitor (the 23" one).
Asus%20VH232H.jpg

I have a VH232H, not 242. To be honest it is a brilliant choice and having a smaller version of it is great, I didn't know of it. I got mine for 220AUD and have been loving it for my PS3 and on occasion, my laptop.

I don't believe mine has audio jacks though, I cant check as it is in a tight spot being 23" and all. Doesn't matter as I run the PS3 video through HDMI and the audio through the regular cables to some logitech speakers (they have a sub and all the goodies).

I got a little ahead of myself there but if you go with the ASUS you shouldn't have a problem at all.

EDIT: My setup as seen in the 'Post pics of your PS3 Setup" thread:
61213_1617245156523_1398181823_1663297_1226797_n.jpg

(Don't worry about the cables, I sorted them out).

I can vouch for the monitor as well, have had it since February with no problems.

WOW, I just discovered something epic! My big boy also has an audio jack which I never noticed! The xbox 360 wont let me run composite and hdmi at the same time (to split audio as I explained before) so I have been running my Xbox through the monitor speakers which are very average. My speakers have several hundred inputs and outputs for things so I reckon I could put the 360 through the monitor and then out back to my speakers.

You two aren't the only ones who like to do this puzzle wire thing (as seen in my picture they are everywhere)! Turns out this thread helps me too!

EDIT: I do believe I have failed, that isn't an audio out is it, it is audio in :ouch:. Whats the red input thing all about?

EDIT: S/PDIF, hmm, thats useless to me...dammit, looks like the xbox stays with my monitor speakers..

See this IS fun

More fun than looking at penises and puke in the "Funny" picture thread, blergh..

Yes, ASUS always seems to have the best bang for your bucks products. Ive got a VW246H for over a year now. No problem whatsoever. 1 year accidental and 3 year standard warranty won me over right away :)

Check out the new models also, the MS/LS? I think... around $200-$250

Yeah I own a laptop made by ASUS and it still runs like new after 8 months. The old Compaq which has an motherboard made by ASUS has lasted about 5 years and that is a long life for a computer. I'd say just stick with the ASUS and order it.

Just grab it from Newegg. It's hard for any other site to beat their service. Not to mention you can make use of the $10 rebate to make it cost $179 with free shipping.

What nick said. That's why I started looking at newegg.ca instead of .com. ;)

Ok, I will probably buy it from there but I want to check it out in real life

Just to see what it looks like in reality, then I will buy it from newegg since it's stoopid cheap

Then call your local stores and see if they have the model in stock. If they do, then drop by and ask to see one in action.

None of the big stores sell ASUS!!! I'm wondering if those sleezy Chinese stores offer any ASUS?? I don't really care if their price is $544,000 I just want to take a look, the size, the picture quality (just in case). Then I will finally buy it from newegg!

Where should I go if anybody has experience, should I Google map search or something?
