Tsukuba Challenge ($30K limit)

In fashion of Volred's 1/4 mile competition I introduce the $30K Tsukuba Challenge. The rules are slightly modified so take note.

Rules:

1.) All you have to spend is $30,000.
2.) NO NITROUS. Even if this comes out of your $30K nitrous is not allowed.
3.) Oil change, fully customizable suspension and limited slip are free.
4.) Customizable transmission is NOT free. It will come out of your $30K.
5.) Tires are free as long as they are N or sports grade.
6.) Rims are free if you want them
7.) Wings are NOT free, and count towards your 30k limit
8.) Race your car at Tsukuba and post times with cost of car and what it took to get there.

I got myself a 1990 Toyota Supra 2.5GT Twin Turbo for 11,458 credits

After the free oil change, suspension upgrade, s3 tyres and lsd, the pertinent stats for the car were:

Power: 273bhp @ 6200rpm
Torque: 266.89 ft lbs @ 4800rpm
Weight: 1520kg
Power to Weight Ratio: 179.6 bhp/tonne

The best lap time I did at this state of tune was a 1:03.984

There's no sound on the video due to a configuration problem with my capture card (i.e. I still haven't managed to work out how to use the thing)

After purchasing a stage 2 HKS turbo (13,500 credits), a semi-racing exhaust/air filter (2,900 credits) and a stage 1 weight reduction (1,200 credits), the pertinent stats for the car had become:

Power: 374bhp @ 6200rpm
Torque: 349.28 ft lbs @ 4800rpm
Weight: 1337kg
Power to Weight Ratio: 279.7 bhp/tonne

Tuned Car Stats

The best lap time I could do with this was a 1:00.800 (although I'm sure I could get below the 1 minute mark, there were a couple of problems on the lap)

The total amount of cash I spent was 29,058 credits.
 
wow amp that is an impressive time. MY buddy who drives a MKIII in real life was suprised. Now he is going to try to top it so try beating the one minute mark.

Best time I got in the end was 1'03.197, damn it. Couldn't quite push it past the 1'03 mark, was pushing for 1'02.xxx. Feel it is possible with this car but difficult.

does the money not differ between ntsc and pal versions? credits not have a different value?
 
I'd totally forgotten about this thread. Thanks to countach for bumping it.

I thought I'd give it another go in a new car. When I had a look at the 80s used car section I was surprised to see an R32 Skyline for just over 8k credits. It was the GTS-T M which I'd used for part of the WRS Skyline event. Being one of the rear-wheel drive Skyline's it's more fun than the 4wd variants, IMO. Best lap I did was 59.987 seconds, with probably 2 or 3 more tenths to come if I could stick a really good lap together.

@barryl85, I wouldn't have thought the prices were different for PAL and NTSC, since they're never given any values.
 
59.987 is a very good time! i tried also with the Nissan Skyline GTS-t Type M '89 but i managed only 1:02.5 ~ and i tried the rx7 and did 1:02.383

by the way,amp88 , which codec should i use to see the videos ? because i cant see them..

I can't remember what codec I used for those vids, but the Full codec pack from here should let you view them.
 
I wanted to try out the supra so i bought everything and did a few laps but could only do 1:02.6 so i thought i would watch the video and then try to improve my self by it so at the start i noticed that you used ss tires and i was using sn(s2) on all of my cars so i changed to ss and did about 6-7 laps(with the supra) and the best was 1:00.863!! :)

since i love the tsukuba i decided to try another thing:

i did a lap in 1:00.022 ... can it get any closer to under minute ?
 
I wanted to join in, but I can't tune suspension, so I just drove the lap out of the car.

my lap time came down to 1.00.901. I'm sure if I could tune worth a flip, I could get under a miniute w/o problems. also, I didn't have enough to buy a brake balance controller, it understeered so damn bad under braking it was pissing me off. I couldn't get the rear to come out w/o losing time since that fits my driving style. if anyone has any decent setup for this car that would be great since I drove this car with default suspension settings.

Took a break from the WRS to try this. Didn't do many laps so a faster time is possible.

My only advice .... brake early. Very. Early.

This was fun 👍 I think I'll keep scouring the used car lots looking for something special. I think the Griffith will be tough to match. In stock form, it already has a super-close transmission, almost 350hp, and it's pretty light.

EDIT:

There's nothing in the used car lot that even comes close to the Griffith. Everything with close to that much power weights half a ton (literally) more :p

Had a go in an RX-7 RZ: 58.6xx (I'll post the specifics later, if anyone's interested ... )
