hello everybody

when i was just doing nothing and buying used cars for fun i bumped on the honda s2000, thougt lets tuned and take a spin at the tsukuba . so tuned and when to tsukuba. did a little fine tuning and took it for a spin. my best lap time was round the 52 seconds, did not remember well.
later that night i watch the best motoring jmd racers . by my suprise i saw keiichi driving a nsx gt 500 and laped a recond round 51 seconds. i thought the game was close by real life. i know the nordschleife is almost real.

is there any other similar track that think has the same problem
i dont want to race in real llife and get stupid times.(going next year to tsukuba)

you can get real times by using sports medium tires but even then,

theres no engine/oil/water temp, the presence of unbelieveable ABS and the temperatures of your tyres/brakes, the temperatre of the circuit, weather coniditoins etc.

yeah to bad that isnt in the game like weather conditions tyre and brake temprature. i hope they will make it on gt5 then it will be much closer. i know i will be kicked my ass on tsukuba , but we will see.
thanks anyway. i give it a try whit sports medium.
i was now driving whit soft on the front and medium on the rear. for a little sliding on the last corner

How acurate is GT4 lap times to real life anyway?

Before GT4 was released they said that a Nissan test driver drove around the Nurburgring in a real Skyline and with GT4. The times he drove with both were pretty close, within a few hundredths of a second.:)

True, very true..

but thats only whit the nur.. whats up the rest of them.

make your own test. pick a car from japan . tuned it and take it for a spin at tsukuba . if you have som Best Motoring vids look at the battles and try to gain the same BHP. take it for a run and you'll see the differnce

Here's an example:

The fastest GT4 lap submitted on Suzuka was 1:29.590 (LitebuoyF1). Sadly I'm second with a 1:30.043.

In 2004, the fastest Formula One qualifying lap was 1:33.542 (M. Schumacher). Fastest race lap was 1:32.730 (R. Barrichello).

2003's pole time was 1:31.713 (R. Barrichello).
2002's pole time was 1:31.317 (M. Schumacher).

Now, there will be some discussion about the speed and driving dynamics of the GT4 F1 car vs. a real-life F1 car, and I'm not sure that debate will ever come to an answer about GT4 vs. real life F1.

But, from the laptime database and the real-life pole position times, it seems like GT4 is very very close to real life.

As for Tsukuba, is it possible that the cars in the video were using one of the chicanes on the real track that's not implemented into GT4? If so, that would slow their times significantly, thus making your S2000 time seem on par with a full-blown race car.

Try using N2 tyres rather than the sport tyres, as it says when you buy a car, these are closer to actual tyres than the far to sticky sports tyres.

The sports tires actually simulate DOT racing tires. The normal tires simulate street tires.

This is pretty obvious right away because the sports tires pull well over 1g in most cars. No street tire could do that. 1g is just about the limit for a really good street tire on a really good car.

PD puts DOT racing tires on all of the cars by default because the level of realism has increased to the point where most players couldn't handle the cars at all otherwise. I think they play a game like Burn Out and then come play GT4 and think that realistic cars should be able to handle 6g turns, no problem.

Anyway, as far as track time comparisons... it's hard to get track times to match up in RL between two different days at the same RL track. There are so many factors involved that any sort of truly scientific comparison of lap times is not really achievable. However, we can get some idea about it. And the comparison looks pretty close. Generally, it seems GT4 is has a little faster lap times than RL.

Of course, it really helps that you can't damage your suspension by going deep into the burms in GT4... you can use up more of the road than you can in RL just because of that alone.

jtc+racer,
the lap time of S2000 from best motoring isnt stock,

here's the lap time of stock S2k from BMI - Volume 10 - Rotary Reborn Mazda Rx-8
s2k.jpg

yes i know, i have the all the BMI , i saw them to but the one that i posted was tuned and increased displacment. mine isn't but bolted a turbo on.
but i think we can discus this on and on.
what i think is that whit gt4 you dont have the heat from the breaks / tyres and engine. so thats the difference.

but thanks anyway for you all replying to my post.

I tried with stock cars. It's pretty close to the real life. I use the Impreza WRX STi Spec C. I have done 1:04.5xx. Best MOTORing is doing the same time too (near).

keep in mind that it is much easier to drive with precision in real life than it is on GT4. When you drive in a video game, you have no feel for cornering G's, brakes, steering input, etc. So if anything, the times of real racers should always be higher than those in GT4, all else being equal. I am not saying I would be all calm and collected driving an F1 car in real life, because I am pretty sure I'd crap my pants. But if you stick me on Trial mountain in a WRX, and assuming I had some significant racing experience (which I don't, other than autocrossing), my times in real life would definitely be better than on the game.

i think thats the most importnat factore i nthe faster lap times in GT4.......
JGTC cars go crazy :D

I can't stand Tsukuba, I've been trying to gold the guided lap license for HOURS and my best time was 0.350 seconds slower than the gold time and I couldn't get ANY faster. GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

I don't get it, this track is pretty simple in lay-out, yet I can't drive any faster. On the other hand I golded the ones on El Capitan and Laguna Seca without even trying much.

You guys have to understand that the driving in GT4 takes place in a perfect world. All the variables are absolutely perfect in that game. In real life there are infinite number of variables that slow the car down. (i.e. actual wear of the car, weather, track condition, etc.)

Also, the narration in the J-version says that the "F1" car in the game is not a real car. It explains that the current F1 cars are limited by strict regulations. The "F1" car in the game gets rid of all these restrictions and creates the ultimate gran prix car. It has a V12 as opposed to the V10's of the current F1 cars. This is why the "F1" car in the game is faster than the cars in real life.

It's funny how people take a pro-race drivers time, match it in a game and say "Yeah - the game is really close to real life".

I have no doubt and will bet money, that NONE of game players posting times the same as pro-race drivers are, will come anywhere close to those times in those cars on those tracks in real life.

Hasn't it occured to anyone, that if a rank amatuer can grab a video game and post a time the same as an immortal like Schummi - that the game must be so far from real life that it's actually a joke.. ;)

The game compensates for the average joe so much that it is actually not a comparison to real life.

For me, the game is just a relatively close facsimile of real life - just watered down and simplified and able to bring some cool cars into the living room - nothing more.

However - people are free to believe what ever they want to.

GT4 has got nothing to do with real life racing. A very good friend of mine is an ex F3 race pilot. I am not!!!! I am just a "game race driver" :dopey: and still, I am sometimes faster than my friend when driving GT3. He said that these games are very nice but nothing in comparison with the real thing. The physics of GT3 were not really that realistic, he said. The cars in GT3 didn't "feel" realistic at some times.

His website: http://www.tomvanbavel.com (with explorer 6, there could be some website mistakes)

Hey 💡 , I just became a senior member, hehe, don't feel like one :dopey:

Thank you RC45!
The game not only provides flawless ABS, but it also modulates throttle and steering input!
It also gives you shifting by the hands of GOD!
Even with the rumbling controller, you can't feel the road nor the car. Where are the tire marbles, oil slicks, wet spots, etc? GT4 is just a perfect world that is created for gaming purposes only.

Real life has so much more variables that it makes GT4 feel like a video game! Oh wait . . .

The last three posts are all correct in stateing that GT4 is not a perfect simulation of real world driving or racing.

However to state:

GT4 has got nothing to do with real life racing.

Is pushing things a bit far.

Just as the last three posters have chastised those who claim GT4 to be the last word in simulation (which it is not), people who claim that GT4 has nothing to do with real life racing should also stop and think about it.

The GT series have always had the basics in place (and could be credited for being the first consul game to do so) that made you think about your driving.

GT4 may not be 100% acurate (and sorry guys - no simulation, regardless of platform is, and I do include RBR, GPL, GTR and others in this), but its does force the player to think about the racing line, braking points, corner apexs and a lot more.

Yes it does give you a helping hand, and no it is not the best sim out, but I would argue that it has done more to teach people to think about how they drive and what they need to do to improve on a lap time that any other game out.

The basics it forces you to consider are all transferable to the real world, as long as you are aware that they are the basics, and as with many things you need to continue to learn in the real world.

I think the truth with reagrd to this lies somewere in between these two viewpoints.

i got some times on both Suzuka and Circut de la sarthe (Le mans)from a book i have listing all the info on supercars in the '90 seson.

Le Mans
Nissan R 89 - 3:43.94
Mazda 787 - 3:47.33

Suzuka
Mercedes Sauber C9 - 1:53.996

i got other car times, but they arnt cars from the game.

I am sorry but I don't agree. It is "a game". Like somebody, I think on another forum, compared GT4 ring and the real ring by playing 2 video with the same car. You can brake a lot later in GT4 than in real life, so that point you stated, about braking point, is not really accurate. If somebody is living close to the ring and learn it through GT4 and then he/she goes out to try the ring in real live, he/she is going to have an accident for sure.
Because of the, not really accurate physics of GT4, you can "hit" the apex later or sooner and still get good times.
About the racing line, mmm, you could be right about that, I agree
Most important thing in driving any vehicle is looking were you go . You can't do that with any game because it is on a screen and not in real 3D. I think that in a few years you will have real simulators (like flightsims to train pilots). You will sit in a real car (that will chake like a real car) with viewing screens around the car, which will give you the feeling to be inside the sim. In this cars you can look were you go.
As for "feeling " the car, mmm, not really accurate as well. Besides looking were you are driving, feeling the car is also very, very important. Real drivers "feel" their cars with their body and not like GT4 with wheel FF.

So, I stand by my statement that it has nothing (nothing is maybe too harsh ) to do with real racing. You just sit in a car seat (or whatever), watching a flat screen, no peripheral view, no moving platform and only 2 plastic pedals, not really realistic. There are so many "pedal" techniques, you can't even learn because you only have 2 of them and not really accurate as well.
My friend knows Alonso (from his carting days) and my friend told me that Alonso said that these "games" are nice but that is all. The only thing real race car driver use these game is for memorising the tracks.
As for just driving around the track, yes i agree, GT4 has some relation to the real thing ===> throttle, brakes, steering wheel and a shifter (all automatic, because you don't have a clutch). GT4 is just too arcadish!!! I think that enthusia will be better and more realistic than GT4

Last thing: maybe I was a little harsh on saying that it has nothing to do with the real thing but i wanted to warn the dreamers on this forum and the youth on this forum whom don't have their driving licences yet. There are always people who are used to drive in GT4 and think that they are "the real thing", they'll get an accident for sure (in real, life I mean)
