//Tuning comp?//

Maybe we should create a car setting database, just like leaderboard but this one for car setting. It would be great if this database is accessible with gtplanet login and people can only submit their own setting. One people, one setting for one car, one updatable record.

Not all people have gtplanet wikipedia access, and it canl be too much work for the people who have access to submit it.
The leaderboard isn't free. I think Jordan bought it for $300, and I don't think he'll fork over another $300 just for a small group of tuners. :indiff:

And [eople can apply for being a guides editor, and/or people can PM me their settings, or post them here, and I'd be more than happy to add them.

what is a non viewable link? excel file ?
I don't exactly know what Uncle Harry was talking about, but maybe he referring to a PM.

What happen when there are many people who has almost the same tuning?
I doubt there will be many people entering a set-up comp. Even in the photomode comps forum, where it's really easy to take a pic and edit it, there's still only 30 pics. Tuning is harder, and not as popular.

Uncle Harry
How can you proove that the settings are yours and not borrowed from another web site?
That's a big problem, we can't.

I see.
BTW, where are the leaderboard? can we use it?

Currently I try to create leaderboard system in my site for collecting some laptime record that scattered in here. It would be a waste of time if we already have it.

I see :) 👍.

Instead of a competition, why not set up a quality tuner tick box for people to rate posted settings similar to the quality post system? That way anybody could vote and not tie up several people who have offered to help.

Duck, a PM would be better than what I was trying to say.

It's pretty comprehensive, but I don't know if it's user friendly or not. :indiff:

That would have to be implemented by Jordan, and even if he had the time to do it, it's probably not possible. :indiff:

And even if it WAS implemanted, any n00b could approve or disapprove of settings he hasn't tried.

If I could make the competition, I'd do it as the following:

  • I'd designate a specific car and track for the week.
  • I'd tell the participants to PM me their settings, then I'd designate a few drivers with different views, to test them.
  • They would rate each set-up on designated rankings, like handling, over/understeer balance, acceleration, braking, etc.
  • I would combine all the separate rankings into one, big one, and the one with the highest ranking wins.
  • After the competition, I'd post the settings in the Car Settings Wiki thread for everyone to see, and put them all in the wiki.
  • It would be weekly. For example, I set up the car and track combo on Sunday, and settings are due on Saturday. Then, the settings testers test the settings, and their rankings are due that Saturday. Meanwhile, when they are ranking the settings, I set up a new car/track combo, and people contribute their settings. Just like the photomode comps.

Any comments on it?

Duck

I've been dragged away to Leeds with work until the 7th (no PS2 and only 1 day back home in between) so if you wanted to go and set this up with the above guidelines I would be more than happy with that.

Ok, I posted up a Judge recruitment thread (link is in sig). Anyone interested, please visit the thread and read it, and once I have everything set, I'll post the first Tuning Competition thread on Sunday.
