Welcome to the fourth Tuning Competition on GTPlanet. Here is everything you need to know to participate.

How it Works

I start the competition every Sunday (I'm starting early to put some energy back into this comp), listing the name of the car you are to tune, and which track the settings will be tested at. You will not have to tune at that track, but it is highly recommended, since the judges will be testing there.

The judges are:
  • Dark Elite
  • gregc
  • Duċk
Once the judges are finished testing all the settings, they will rank each of them on the following categories:
  • Turn-in (entry to corners)
  • Mid-Corner response (whether the car under/oversteers mid-corner or holds the racing line well)
  • Corner exit (how quickly you can exit a corner whilst staying in good control)
  • Stability (rear end staying in line, car not 'jumping' or feeling skittish in turns)
  • Grip (start-offs, how much power can be used without the drive wheels losing traction? Does the car oversteer excessively?)
  • High-speed controllability (whether the car becomes 'frantic' and turns far too sharply at high speeds)
  • Handling while braking (are you able to easily turn the car while braking, and without going into oversteer?)
  • Acceleration (how good is it? Is there a lot of traction while doing it?)
Each category will be rated on a scale of 10 (with 10 being the best). Once the ranking is complete, all of the seperate ratings for a set-up from each judge will be compiled together for that one set-up. This is done with all the other settings, and the one with the highest ranking wins.

The judges will also write a mini-report about the settings, and how they felt driving them.

What to Tune, and Where to Tune At

You will have to tune the BMW M3 (not the CSL or GTR) @ Nürburgring. You must use S3 tires, and no ASM.

Rules

  • No Driving Aids (ASM, TCS is OK) allowed.
  • No ballast allowed.
  • You can tune the car in any way you wish, as long you use a reasonable amount of parts (ie don't slap on a sports suspension and a 1.5 LSD and expect to be rated high)
  • You must PM Me your settings, do not post them here. PM them in the following format:
Code:
Car:

Part List:

[B]Suspension[/B]
-Spring Rate: 12.0 / 12.0
-Ride Height: 100 / 100

Good luck!

Okay dokey, I'll be entering if I'm allowed

I have learned my lesons well from previous weeks and know what to do and what not to do. I allready did this like a few days ago, before the thred was posted,And I really like my set-up that I currently have on the car-I just hope the judges are going to like it...

I didnt have much hope in my Tuscan but in the end I did really well...for my Viper I have high hopes as I put more effort into the tune. :) I need to do well as I dont think I'll be able to provide a setup for week 4.

This car is so great stock i dont see how we can improve on perfection, especially on a track that is suited to this stunner of a car. I will look into it, but I personally dont think i can improve on it, apart from getting rid of the S3 tyres and sticking N3's on.

Arrrgh, I've missed the other comps, but I have to do this one. I've got a killer M3 CSL setup that I can probably transfer over(with some tweaks) to a regular M3.

VQuick
I think it's just the regular M3. No CSL, and no GTR in road or race form.
Correct.

There's always a way to improve, guys, I don't want to test a dozen cars with stock setups :p I'm sure you can all come up with a way to reach a new level of perfection :)

EDIT
TS
I have a setup that works ok, except the car just loves to slide on corner exit.
*psst* I like that...

DE

i'd like to join, especially 'cos i got this fantastic csl setup i'm using for dan's 2.3 comp - thanks to dunda. i'll adjust it for the regular m3 and pm to duckface.
EDIT just gave it a go: the m3 with csl settings. turned out to be total crap. apparently 2 different cars altogether.
so i will not enter it into this sweet comp. interesting to see the outcome tho. good luck to you tuning guys of gtp.

TS, i don't think it's about your times versus somebody else's, more about how your times change after a tuning. my own time is generally not stellar at the ring either, but that does not make my setup bad (other things do : )

Correct, lap times aren't rated. They can indicate if it's a good set-up, but ultimately lap times are a measure of driver skill, not tuning skill.

I know that, but I know I can do a better time if I get my line right.

If you were in this weeks WRS, you would know why my time is like that. We are racing a 700hp 1300kg racing vette and you have to be on you game, or else...

ok about to send my settings in, My car is stable , but twitchy under cornering, its not the back end, infact the back stays exactly where I put it, but the front turns in a bit too easy. Hell its only a game :D
