Only a minor but has anyone noticed the tunnel glitch that i seem to have? When exiting a tunnel the display distorts for a split second. Now ive got used to it i dont bother. At first i tried to correct the apparent car twich and end up crashing. Im playing on a CRT until i can afford a HD TV.

I realise that it gets brighter though there is also an effect thats a bit like putting a magnet next to a monitor.

Do yo mean the HDR effect as you exit the tunnel?
is that where the screen glares white for a short time then settles back to normal?

are pd trying to simulate the eyes getting used to bright light after the relative darkness of the tunnel, or is it a glitch?

It gets bright but the middle of the picture distorts like when you put a magnet on the side of a monitor.

1) yes.
2) not a glitch.

guys have you ever driven a car in bright daylight out of a tunnel????????

guess what?...its like that!!!....

simulation game...remember??...lol.
spyrrari.

It's normal. They are using a fairly new effect to games called High Dynamic Range Rendering (HDR).

It is a way to simulate the human eye. Also, nVidia explain it very short, but good.

Bright things can be really bright
Dark things can be really dark
And details can be seen in both

My TV shines like a sun..
I hope, I could get also few rays for my pale face.
(I wonder how much my electricity bill will rise because of the effect :nervous: )

Depends on what kind of TV you have. Some CRTs will actually distort the image because of the rapid change in the amount of energy being sent to the phosphors. My old TV used to do that now and again.. a flashing light in one corner of the screen would cause that corner to "pulse" with the lights, actually changing the screen geometry slightly.

It's not the game, and it's not a glitch.. it's your TV that's causing it. I don't think it hurts anything, though, so I wouldn't worry about it unless it's overly annoying for you.

Sounds like a reason to go shopping!

Not for me, the iris on my eyes works fast. The effect on GT5p is totally overdone.

Maybe I'm biased though. HDR has looked unrealistic and stupid on every game I've seen.

Each to his own and all - But not in my book. I've experienced that explosion of light in real life. Try driving in the south of france during midsummer and you'll see it's not overdone..

HDR in Far Cry absolutely ROCKED !....

sorry but my eyes are in top condition too,but i experience this almost dayly...maybe its beceause the sun here in holland is most of the times very low(being a northen country and all)and shines you directly in the eye ...:)
suppose this is a different experience for everyone:sly:

TV upgrade time?

Im affraid I wont be updating the TV just yet. Ive just bought a wheel and pedals and a gameracer seat. Ive always wanted to play with a wheel but could not afford a decent set up before. Ive been playing GT since its first Incarnation on the PS1. Never really got to grips with MT when using the pad. Hopefully with feet and hands working the controls i will find it easier. We used to have an Alpha with a flappy paddle so Im hoping I will cope in GT..
