Happy Thanksgiving GTP!

What are all of you doing this year? I myself am about to leave for my grandparents house, once again, my entire dads side of the family is going to be there. Also huge amounts of turkey. I'm really hungry too.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm gonna be at home with my family, eating Turkey, pie, mashed potatoes, etc.. Oh, you can't forget the football games today though.

Good times...

I've got about three Thanksgivings to go to (my parents are divorced), but its looking like I'm only going to one of them. Oh well, better luck next year. I get to enjoy a lot of good food (some of which I made on my own, Broccoli Salad FTW!), get to hang out with some of the favorite people in my family, and give thanks for all the good stuff thats happened in the past year.

Maybe I'll hang out with friends tonight, maybe not. We'll see. The bosses at work want to do a "book club" meeting, but I don't think we'll have enough time, given that some of them have to be at work tomorrow at 5AM. Too bad for them...

Question for all the British folk: Do all of you celebrate Good Riddance today?

What? They'd celebrate that on our Independence Day, dummy.

I'm going to my grandmas, like everyone. And I'm going to eat a lot.

Didn't bag a turkey this year. It's a meatless Thanksgiving at the Solid Lifter's household.

Tons of grub, though, so I don't care. I didn't feel like smoking one today, anyway. Oh so lazy, today. Plus, there's ham in the fridge if people want meat. Italian bologna, too.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

My parents are out of town, and seeing as I didn't (couldn't) want to drive to Pennsylvania with the loner convertible Cooper with summer only tires I'm home by myself. I'm going over to my aunt's house around halftime of the Lions game for dinner.

Are you having pie today? Or are you going to eat 3.141592654........ pounds or turkey?

No turkey? But that's the whole point of Thanksgiving!!! O, wait, no it's not... But it's a big part of it! O well, have a good one anyway Solid Lifters!

I just noticed something about Solid Lifters, he looks a lot like this guy:

or ma bey it's just me. Look at his profile and tell me.

EDIT: Sorry for off topic, but it's better than starting a new thread. (And I'm making a fool of myself posting this)

EDIT AGAIN: I hope it doesn't offend you.

Thanksgiving is basically a day where we all stuff our faces with turkey and potatoes and whatnot, because it was the first harvest that the pilgrims had here. Or something like that.

I was refering to the puritans, keeflips.

The day is celebrated for the hospitality of the Native Americans, upon the arrival of the white-man, at the first harvest. Little did they know, that in the near future the white-man would push them farther and farther toward the West and eventually exterminate the majority of the Native Americans. But mostly now, it's just an excuse for family members to get together to stuff thier faces with turkey, and watch Football.

None the less, Happy Thanksgiving.

My family watches old NASCAR tapes. Nothing like stuffin' your face while watching a lot of cars go in circles!

We, as always, celebrated by watching the Lions loose... Again. But, it was on a 52" HDTV, which was awesome! Detroit made a good showing though, so I can't complain too much, we were playing the best team in the division after all...

Good times at the 2007 Thanksgiving! Now I get to deal with all the crazyness up to New Years. Hooray!!!

No meat, but oh well. I didn't miss it, to tell you the truth. I guess I wasn't in a turkey mood.

I ate two celery stalks, three deviled eggs, two pieces of bread, cranberry mold and a slice of carrot cake for dessert. I passed on the sweet potatoes, stuffing and green beans.

I had a cherry 7-Up, and boy, are those things tasty!

Went to grandma's house, after she got back home from my brother's house, and she didn't even make a pie or anything else. Even she didn't feel like doing anything for Thanksgiving.

Weird.

All I know is it's time for some turkey sandwiches from the left overs. I may dig up the food thread so I can show y'all how to really make a turkey sandwich.

That was just a failed attempt to be creative I guess, but I was going for "Pie".

Strangely I haven't had any pie - I just stuffed my gullet with a ton of food, and you expect me to eat PIE?!

And how good are sweet potatoes?

Actually, the natives just showed them how to farm. It's not like they rode in and saved the day and everyone lived happily ever after. Thanksgiving was more or less just being able to eat enough to survive. The settlements were still in death and famine for a while, until the pilgrims decided to ditch the way they were farming altogether.

The old system was that the entire village had its own farm and that each person living in the settlement was supposed to work on it. The young and strong didn't want to have to pull everyone's weight, though. Essentially, what wound up happening was that only like a fifth of the people eating the food were actually making the food. People turned to stealing rather than farming for survival.

What they did was change it so that each household had its own small plot of land on which to farm. Instead of figuring out how to take the most from the big farm, each house figured out how to create the most from its own farm.

That's what created the bountiful harvest to allow each settlement to feast in plenty, and that's what's really being celebrated.
