Making a poor post just to insult a poor post that was created to insult a useful (yet sarcastic *I hope*) post is pathetic.

I set it on standby then turn it off at the back. I tried leaving it on stand-by but my parents kept complaining.

[OFFTOPIC] But I do leave my Hi-fi and TV constantly on stand-by in my room :D [/OFFTOPIC]
 yeah I was being sarcastic. I would never insult anyone on GTP unless they are a noob and asked wether XXX car is in GT4 or something like that and the answer would be right underneath the thread they posted.

My swapping games process (if in a game):
- Press RESET button when in main menu of game
- When blue light comes on press it to OPEN DRAWER
- Replace disks and close drawer
- Wait for game to load

My turning off process (if in a game):
- Press RESET button when in main menu of game
- When blue light comes on press it to OPEN DRAWER
- Remove disk and close drawer, then wait a second or two
- Press and hold RESET button until standby mode occurs
- Switch switch at back of console to OFF

I do the same thing. seems like a lot of work, but that's how i've always done it.

my brothers always used the front switch. recently my youngest brother said his friend always uses the back switch, and his ps2 is older but seems to load quicker than our newer one (which unfortunately sees more dust than it deserves i think). then again, sometimes you have to take an 11 yr. old's judgement into question.... for all i know he could have just told me verbatim what his friend told him. anyone have an original ps2 manual? what does it reccomend?

i recently just bought my own preowned ps2 and ive been powering off on the front and then turning off all the power as well. if its not going to be on then why does it need power going through it?

I always use the front switch. As I see it, turning it off from the back is no different from turning the switch on a computer's PSU on and off every time.

I leave my PS2 on for hours and sometimes days with no use (Yes I know Im hardcore :D). My PS2 has been dropped many times and even broken the case and once got the disc tray stuck out (had to do some surgury then), I also always turn it off from the back.

Its a 2001 model and has never given me any problems, good work sony 👍.

Even if what Jedi2016 said is true about the little power surge thing...the lighhts onm the ps2 dont have filaments they're LED's...but I suppose it would still do damage

i do too, but i heard from somewhere that it's not good for the drive...it's true for a VCR but i don't know bout opticals.

I sorta had a sneaky feeling it wasn't good, but i couldnt be bothered .

My mate has effed up his PS2 and now he can not open the disc tray unless there is a game in it. Once i went round to his place and saw him prying open the disc tray front cover with a knife, claiming that he forgot to leave a game in it.

Very peculiar problem. I doubt it has nothing to do with the topic at hand but then again its an interesting event.

You were saying.

I always put it in standby. I have thrown the back switch a few times (when I moved twice in 4 months and once when it went on a trip to the in-laws with me. :sly: )

I take it after reading all these posts here that nobody has really bothered to go into their System Configuration, and set the internal clock on the PS2, which is why I always use the front button to put the system in standby.

However, the PS2 does have an internal battery to keep track of the clock in case you do disconnect the system, but for how long and how accurate the clock remains, I wouldn't know.

Now I was able to dig up the old manual, and it basically says that the only time you do turn off the main power at the back of the system, is when your not going to be using the system for an extended period of time.
Mind you, there have been times for when I didn't use my system for months and I still kept it on standby and never had a problem.

So basically just think of it as a VCR, when we're not watching a movie, the VCR is in standby mode, which constantly harasses us with the blinking 12:00, unless of course you bothered to set the clock, which 99% of the peole on these forms including myself have probably never bothered to do. :)
