turning assists off....whats your best tip?

Decided to take the race modded ZR1 around the ring without assists and managed a squirrelly 6:52. Im new, racing about 6 weeks with a G27 and the first week with a DF wheel.

Seems there is no forgiveness in braking, I can barely touch it in the wrong spots without taking a detour, whats the best tip to get used to it?
 
Brake in straight line when coming to corners and use engine braking while doing so, be gentle with the throttle coming out of corners and with your steering inputs during them. Overall, be smooth. And practice a lot, even though it becomes annoying and seems to hard at times.

Asistless driving is the way to go if you want to enjoy a tough, rewarding experience out of GT5. And it can make you less rubbish at more serious race sims like Race 07.
 
You should look into your brake balance. Try 4/1 or 5/2.

With no assists the game requires you to be delicate in almost everything.

Yep, using something that doesnt appear to be modelled seems to be a good tip..

With no ABS, Set Brake to about 3/2 And dont come completly off the throttle when braking really hard. When I use no ABS, I tend to keep about 20% throttle on even when on full brake. It seems to stabilise the car and reduce locking up a bit better.

No traction control is all about throttle control. Id suggest starting off with a slow car, like the 86 GT on Comfort softs. Its slow enough that you wont be frustrated losing traction and locking up in corners, but its fast enough that you need to worry about losing traction out of corners and locking up going in...

As said earlier, just practise. Its the only way to get used to it and be good at it..

Familiar with most of the concepts, engine braking, light throttle etc. But they become completely different when aids are turned off. When I put together a better wheel stand that emulates a better driving position it will be a big help.

The biggest issue was brake balance, I was using a tune from a respected tuner on these forums and didn't think to question brake balance as most of the tunes I've seen have similar setups......how do so many tuners get this wrong? I was assuming that these setups were more a result of the games interpretation but it is very much like a real car. I set it at 3/1 and immediately I was able to drive more consistently and similar to the fashion I had been learning (level 35)
 
If you reset your mind to the point where you're starting totally fresh without assists then you'll grow to drive fast through practice. I did pretty much the whole game without assist so naturally it is very easy for me know that I've spent so much time like it.
 
that's better...6:37.140. My best with aides (traction control at 1, ABS at 2 and skid recovery on) in the same car is 6:24.397.

I hate the 1st turn:grumpy:
