The price is a bit steep but there's nowt wrong with a Chevy V8. It'll probably break down less frequently.

Overall, I approve of their comeback. They made great cars before they went out of business, so I'm guessing these newer ones shouldn't be that bad. The price is a bit high though, but still, I think that's awesome that they are back.

The engines will probably be fine, I'll just miss the old speed six (and twelve engines). They were a part of the old TVR's magic to me.

Bah Chevy. That just landed me an insta-hate on this car. I cannot STAND Chevy except for muscle.

I think it's great news. As long as they are still mad cars.

They have mp3 stereos with USB and likely to have ABS and ESP at least, so some madness has gone.

If you mean mad as in it smells of glue and that they might work when it feels like it, then yes they probably will be.

...they will have Chevy V8's instead of the 'speed six' engines and will cost £99k.

Cue TVR promptly going back out of business in a couple of months!!

TVRs sold because you could get slightly mad cars with almost the performance of a 911 Turbo or low-end Ferraborghini for about 1/3 of the price.
Maybe if they start producing LHD cars for most of the rest of the world's wealthy elite they may stand 1/2 a chance but if they're sticking to RHD then they're marketing to a dwindling clientele of rich folks in Britain such as high-end executives, merchant bankers (not rhyming slang! ;)) and Premiership footballers, and given that the latter don't seem to be able to keep technology festooned Ferraris and Astons on the road without wrecking them, they've no chance with a TVR!

Exactly, there is so much you can get for the money, even the 'exclusivity' factor won't be enough. They will sell a handful and cease trading again.

Such a shame, I want TVR to succeed, but for 100k they would have to bring back the 900bhp Speed Twelve, not shove a different engine in an old car and treble the price!

Why? Because Chevrolet is bad or because Chevy competes with Ford and is therefore terrible.

What confused me was the "except for muscle" bit. It's fair enough not liking Chevy for the Aveo, but "except for muscle" implies he likes all the cars that Chevy people like anyway!

Which makes it all the stranger when he writes off a car because it has a GM engine in it.

Well, it could work. I mean you'd have to be a bit mad to spend £99k on one, but I don't think that criteria is anything new. Just a shame that you now have to be inherently wealthy in the first place now.

I like that they're offering to build Griffiths now too. Griffiths! When was the last time they made one of those?!

Did you even read his whole post that you quoted?

That's the thing...

They've put a Chev motor in it...

So that's gone too. :guilty:

Don't worry, the rest can still fall apart!

In all honesty I love TVRs of old, but sticking another manufactures engine in it takes away the point of TVR. There are loads of small British cars that use other engines, Morgan for one use Ford or BMW motors.

Toronado
Wat. Does that mean that every TVR made before 1996 isn't a TVR?

No, not at all, but having it's own engine set it apart from the plethora of other small sports car manufacturers. It was all TVR Now that it has lost that and has trebled in price, why would I want a TVR? I could get all sorts of cars for £100k.

I can deal with Chevelles, Camaros, 'Vettes etc, they are American Muscle. The rest I've always had issues with as far as problems with engines, body rotting etc. I never took a liking to them to begin with as far as their styling and the way they performed. Grew up with Ford and Dodge but that's besides the fact. I respect all cars but that is the one brand I just can't stand to be around.

I drive cars not names.

I don't get why they feel they need to give them a new engine to start it up again, thought the inept ownership was the problem.

That was the problem, but they probably couldn't afford to make new engines that are EU compliant, so they found an alternative.

Sweet, love TVR autos. I don't know what the public will think of an American V8 in these, but I'm liking the power. Isn't that the Corvette motor?
