nr.1. even standard and premium cars.
the amount of choice of selections of rims.
there are so few choices to chose between even premium cars.

gt4 was my worst experience in gt series. and thats because of
the driving was so bad and that destroy al the game because it could be then the best game if it just had gt3's driving little of topic her.
but there was the best rim system ever you can get rims from every car on every car. and different rims on the different cind of tyre
yes

and

nr2
vhy dont they let us paint orginal rims to somtimes they look best on the car

and nr3 sorry for little bad english

Perhaps it's just me, but personally I cannot stand the use of the word 'rims'. They're called wheels. Rims makes it sound like we're playing some kind of Need For Speed game.

Nah, Need for Speed would be spinners. :sly:

Rims is correct in my opinion as its the rims, and not the whole wheel we are talking about here.

Im pretty sure they're called rims lol. Wheels are the whole unit, rims and tires.

It seems to be an American term. Prefer 'alloys' instead of wheels. McSoap is right, we're talking about the outer part of the wheel, not the entire wheel itself.

Well rims is a CAR term not a Need For Speed turn.. i hate it when people say that, they sound uneducated. As for the thread. I prefer the stock rims on most cars except for a select hand full.

I find myself saying rims all the time - it all depends on where you grew up. Don't hate! Dang Netherlands! LoL

At least know I try to correct myself since I am now in a region where that word gets looked upon like you do.:irked: "wheels...wheels...wheels.."

It would be nice to have the option to change the size as well. Not too rediculus but just enough to put your own stamp on a car.

Haha, at least we've got a different term for the outer part of the wheel. (Shame it doesn't translate that well in English.)

You can glitch paint stock wheels / rims in an older version (pre 2.01)
The only sad thing is theres only so few model available to this glitch.

Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evolutione '91
Maserati GranTurismo S '08
BMW 1 series Concept Tii '07
Nissan Silvia SpecR Areo (S15) '02
Nissan Skyline R33 GTR V-Spec '97
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI GSR T.M. SCP '99

Are the only ones I know of.
Anyone knows if theres more car available?

Rim is the correct term. The tire is installed on the rim. The wheel is installed on the axle.

The rim of the wheel?

From Dictionary.com

Noun:
The upper or outer edge of an object, typically something circular: "an egg cup with a gold rim".

So the rim is the outer edge of the wheel. If you are talking about replacing rims, as opposed to wheels, you would only be replacing the outer edge. Now, I don't claim to speak for most people on here, but last time I went to a wheel and tyre shop I couldn't buy a set of edges for my wheels.

Also, From Wikipedia:

Rim (wheel)

The rim is the "outer edge of a wheel, holding the tire."[1] It makes up the outer circular design of the wheel on which the inside edge of the tire is mounted on vehicles such as automobiles.[2] For example, on a bicycle wheel the rim is a large hoop attached to the outer ends of the spokes of the wheel that holds the tire and tube.

In the 1st millennium BC an iron rim was introduced around the wooden wheels of chariots.

Rims, wheels, alloys, whatever, the whole selection of those 'round things that turn' should be available for all Premium cars and I don't understand why it isn't.
There must be a complicated technical reason for it though, otherwise it would've been fixed through an update by now.
With no knowledge to back it up, I suspect all Premium cars were modelled with each wheel option beforehand (so there could be multiple models of each Premium car) and perhaps time constraints caused a limited selection to be used which perhaps isn't easy to change through an update.

Im with DeadEnd on this. I never use the term 'Rims' and always say 'Wheels'. Rims to me has always been an American word for wheels. Whether or not that is correct rims also reminds me of NFS, neon and tuning.

Painting the wheels, or rims, would be nice as I do not like after-market wheels. Manufacturer designed wheels always look better to me. I wish I could paint my Lamborghini Aventador wheels dark grey as I think black is a little dark for them. Also, some wheels in GT5 looks almost white so painting them would help alleviate this.

I agree that "wheel" is the proper term for the assembly of tire and wheel. I also believe that "rims" are the proper term for 24" wheels and above. If you think about it, 10 years ago you'd be proud to roll up to the block and say "I got 20" rims, pimpin'" but now you have to turn your head in shame if you dare think bout uttering dem sorry words of contentment. You need 26's now.

There are few answers to the OP here, that we as users can answer. But why do you guys have to make it into a lesson on the word wheel or rim.
Obviously you all understood the OP and he said he was sorry for his pore English, still I found his English more understandable than some of the guys on this forum who have English as their native language.

Also the word rim is for me the thing usually made of aluminum and a rubber tire would fit on it and you would have yourself a wheel. If you mean something else I already read about it.

And to the OP, I guess they had to limit it, after all it is a driving game and not a pimp my ride game. But I see different cars have different custom rims(wheels) to fit to their car. So if they made all available for every car I think we could have a bit wider selection. I personally don't really care how my wheels look, I can't see them when I drive anyway ;)

"Rim" is accepted slang for the big metal bit in the middle of the tyre.

Just like "Dosh" means money.

This is one of the things that GT6 can greatly improve upon, making it more anticipating for the next game, even if it's just released for the PS3. I see that some of you here are looking forward to next generation visuals and physics, but I think with the many improvements that GT6 can have in terms of features and content, stuff doesn't need any next gen power, makes it a good enough reason that there's nothing wrong if GT6 does release for the PS3. I'm content enough with the visuals, physics, and 16 player racing in GT5.

Anyway, getting back to the actual subject of the thread, I really did like GT4's wheel features as well. If it's something that they already did in the past, I'm sure it's not a problem to do in the future right? The least they can do is improve upon it. Makes me think that their time spent on developing the game's engine and premium cars, made them overlook a lot of problems in terms of "game design," especially the A-Spec, which looks like an afterthought to be honest.

I love the rim system for GT5, but one thing that annoys me is that even though standard cars get a huge selection, you cant put wire rims on any of the older european cars.

though it has improved from GT4 since most cars have rims that actually fit good on them. I fremember the DB9's rims looked like they should be put on a small roadster rather than a huge sports luxury car.

Or alloys

The rim of a wheel is the outer most edge, that the tyre sits inside, and also the part that bad drivers are most likely to curb.

The entire wheel with or without the tyre is a wheel/alloy. NOT a rim.

I only associate "rims" with American gangster/idiot rapper talk

Alloy is a composition of more than one metal in any format (sheet, tube, trombone etc), what are you people on about???

When they first invented the 'wheel' it was known as a a 'wheel' not a rim. Rim is just another slang word as is alloy, ie; alloy wheel. lol I'm bored.

The BIB.

As someone who lives in the UK, I don't know whether to call a wheel a rim is normal in the states but over here, the only time I have ever heard the term "rim" is on those tacky MTV Cribs like shows and "pimp my ride" type shows and was under the impression it was youth slang.

I've certainly never heard the term rims used in a professional context.

The term seems synonymous with bling and being flash and isn't used as a term for the wheel outside of youth slang, so some may have an affliction to the term.

It's just a cultural thing.

Yep. You could put "rims" on your car, forget to put tyres on em, and the thing would still roll (yo); ergo, it has wheels, by definition.

But then I have experience with motorcycle / bicycle "wire" wheels, where you assemble them from their component parts: hubs, spokes (with nipples) and rims!
A tyre is simply something that wrapped around the rim of a wheel (it was often of iron).
If a rim simply describes the entirety of the metal portion of a wheel, then why don't trains / locomotives have rims? What about Mr. Ferris' wonderful construction?

By all means, feel free to use the slang term, but please don't treat it as "official" or anything like technically accurate, especially when its implied meaning conflicts with the established technical meaning.

And we all want a wider selection of wheels, to be able to paint stockers, and to be able to swap them, like in GT4.
I'd go even further and say we should be able to change their size, along with (but separate from) the tyre sizes, and that should have an effect on the car's handling. 👍
