Actually, it's a photograph of me. I come from a long line of proud and distinguished wheels, so it's hard for me to just sit back whilst people use such disrespectful language. I would never dream of calling you people after one of your... components, but this is the struggle when you've so few rights, not even recognised as being anything like equal. We have for too long been a mere tool, to have been abused and put down, served as slaves to mankind... But now, in many places, particularly in your centres of power, we outnumber you two or even four to one! Now is our time! Et c. :sly:

Is it me or has this thread turned into a discussion about the correct term for wheels on cars?

Nor just you. An excellent example of how people have to be correct in the internet.

Next up: is it a motor or an engine?

Pedant:

A pedant is a person who is excessively concerned with formalism and precision, or who makes a show of his or her learning.

Pedantic:

Like a pedant, overly concerned with formal rules and trivial points of learning.

Pedanticism:

Pedanticism is related to perfectionism in the fashion that the individual practicing this form of perfectionism always are experiencing the need to correct 'faults' until absolute 'perfection'.

If this person spots an error, they have to correct it, even if it would be deemed unneccessary by other individuals.

Sometimes the error they feel the urge to correct the errors that are not even there. This often leads to conflicts, where a more immature person might start peckering even further about inexistant errors.

Using the wrong word isn't trivial. Deliberately using the wrong word is stupid. It isn't about being a pedant or a perfectionist. It's about right and wrong.

PS - What the hell is "peckering"? Actually, nevermind.

PPS "inexistant"? Really?

hey, blame urban dictionary, not me.

in any case. where do you draw the line? if using jargon is wrong and therefore stupid, wouldnt that make acronyms, shorthands, stupid as well?

its lingo man.. when you are at the table do you refuse to pass the margarine to someone who asked for butter?

youre a pedant man, a pedant.

And some people can't discuss anything without resorting to personal attacks. Such a wonderful world.

I'll keep answering your questions as long as you keep posting them. :sly:

Motor: something that imparts motion.
Engine: a machine.

Surprise! It's both. That was quite a fun one, though.

Ah yes, Urban Dictionary. Up there with Oxford, Merriam-Webster and Macquarie Dictionaries as the go-to for any budding lexicographer.

1. Who the hell eats margarine in preference to butter?
2. Acronyms aren't the same as Jargon. Jargon is not the same as slang. Slang is not the same as moronic misuse/abuse of words.
3. It's you're, not youre.

His momma named him "Clay", Imma call him "Clay"...

Off topic... he did beat Joe Lewis' (expletive).

I would call these wheels, you may call them whatever you want ..

A rimless wheel, now would this be called rim ?

Never in my life, I've heard someone called a truck steel wheel, a rim ...

But I do hear often, the rim part of a wheel that gets damaged or a broken spoke ...

This wheel has a broken spoke but the rim is fine ...
Hope this clarify things up :)

I've always considered the rim as the outer part of the wheel. That's only because I've worked on car my whole life though. I just shrug it off when someone refers to a wheel as a "rim".

I also agree with the OP. Wheel selection is far too limited and it would be very nice to be able to color the stock wheels. You can IRL, so it only makes sense that you should be able to in the game.

Oh, the size should also be selectable...

And some people can't discuss anything without resorting to personal attacks. Such a wonderful world.

Motor is electric...

ive worked on cars my whole life too. and even though this is a completely unrelated point, it is COMMON in the car scene to refer to a wheel as a rim. ive heard both a thousand times, any single 'car guy' in the world wouldnt think twice about it

all engines are motors but not all motors are engines.

i'm seriously doubting if any of you guys have talked about cars with someone in real life, or much less driven them. you sound like a bunch of whiny 14 year olds trying to sound smart by correcting everyone.
