GT5 is a game, not a sim. If you are actually a sim purist you should probably be playing on the pc.

Cockpit view is unrealistic except for in the formula cars.
It's like driving your car from the back seat and it's impossible to see the apex's with most cars because the windscreen frame is in the way.
In real life you can move your head to the side slightly to view the kerbs.
A hood/bonnet view would be a bit closer and your monitor becomes your windscreen but we don't have it, so bumper is the only way to get similar visability.

Actually I do drive PC sims. I used to race in a league in GTR2 but being in college right now I don't have enough time to devote to a league as intense and competitive as it was. Now, the league I ran did force cockpit view. At first there were a bunch of whiners like most of the people who have posted here so far but, they got over it. I went back for a race a few months ago and the level of competitiveness is ridiculous compared to what it was. And a lot of the people that yelled and complained about cockpit view were winning poles, races, and championships.

Now, for all the people saying that cockpit view isn't realistic. It may not be 100% true to life. "It's not the same as driving a real car." Here's why. Peripheral vision. In real life you have peripheral vision. On a monitor you do not. Unless you have a crazy wrap around screen with the field of vision set correctly it's impossible to re-create this on a single monitor. But, you're still "sitting" behind a wheel looking through a windsheild with restricted view. It's definitely WAY more realistic than sitting on the roof.

Well, PD was supposed to have head tracking via the eye toy so blame them for not being able to move your head to see the kerbs :)

2nd time this week now ESCUDO that I've facepalmed you.
Nothing wrong with forcing people to use cockpit or not use ABS. If it turns you off, then don't compete.

You have a point...

...but it goes the other way perfectly. If you want to race a certain way, go right ahead. No need to force any of the stuff listed, most other people don't want to drive in only cockpit view or without ABS (maybe not so much the first one) but for those that do, just organize a race. Invite your friends, let them know what's going on and see if they want to do it that way.

Of course, I'm totally in favor of adding more options, like the ability to restrict race modded cars or street cars or only certain makes or models. Basically give us the same options as what they used for A-Sepc races or Special events. (Samba bus race anyone?)

I drive in cockpit anyways so don't mind..
As for ABS off, well, that would be hard to do.
But I agree that we should be able to restrict more stuff.
Maybe force everyone to have the same tuning settings, force everyone to have the same view and same aids etc.
I'm serious, why? Because it will increase the ability to have more LOL races :D
Even better if you could restrict backwards view :D
