Sorry the noob question but, whats the pratical difference between those two types from Honda? Like NSX T-S and T-R...
Thank you!

Type-S means Sport type. So it will be the sportiest normal production model of the car, but also the most luxurious.

Type-R means Racing, so the car will be different from the standard model, to the point of having different motors, different body parts, and similar changes. It differs notably from the Type-S in that the interior is often simplified or stripped down, with the only real improvements being in the area of driver control and feel.

Nissan has the same thing now, with their different Nismo lines, S and R.

I think in the old generation the Type-S Zero was superior, but the new generation NSX Type-R definately seems superior.

Although I'm also sure that of the Acura NSX Zanardi Edition was the best of the previous generation NSXs.

Thanks Takumi! Just what I wanted to know!!
But, just to make sure, Type-S if very far from stock or just a bit different?
Thanks again!

The NSX Type S Zero was faster than the NSX-R way back when the NSX-R used a 3.0L engine, mainly due to the Type S Zero having a 3.2L engine.

Type-S models have better suspensions and engines. The RSX Type S has a tuned K20A series motor used in the Type R, while the standard RSX uses an eco engine that is more like... a Civic. However, a the current Integra Type R (the RSX is still the Integra in Japan) is superior to the Type S because of a more aggresive suspension, less weight, removed luxuries, and what not. Type Rs are stripped down to the neccessities, and given sports/racing equipment.

Someone may correct me.. I'm more of a Toyota guy <_<

The Type-R uses the K20A, while the Type-S that we have here uses the K20A2. Similar, but not the same. The Type-R has different cams, pistons, more compression, blah blah.......you get the point. They are similar, but the K20A in the R is the more potent of the two engines.

The base RSX and new Civic Si here use the K20A3. It is very similar to those engines as well, but its built for more daily driver power, not top end performance. The intake ports are smaller to enhance turbulencs and low end power. Also, it doesn't have VTEC on the exhaust cam. The K20A2 in the Type-S has it on both intake and exhaust. Basically, this head does not breath well compared to the K20A2. Its designed for low end torque, emissions and economy. It also doesn't have as much room to work with in the valvetrain, hence the low redline compared to the other K20s.

I'm not even going to get into the new K20Z in the new revamped '05 RSXs. Thats another story for another day.........

Type R's in American standpoints generally mean all the luxuries...AND more power.....
We've only had one Type-R ever sold here, the Integra. And, you had to have the dealer install AC and stereo if you wanted them, because the car didn't come stock with them. No leather was available, nor was a sunroof. So, basically they had NO luxury items. They weren't really "stripped out" so to speak. Just a few things removed or changed to lighten them a bit. Most of the good stuff was underhood and in the suspension.

As far as I know, FQ doesn't mean anything officially, but if you make the Q mean quick, then the F becomes fairly obvious (I'd say it, but I don't want to bring about the wrath of the mods).

Fastest NSX in stock form is the 2002 Honda NSX-R. Reason? It weights right at 2800lbs which is around 200-300 lbs more than a regular NSX or the Type S model. It also had racing suspention, better brakes, and overall it just had more performance upgrade along with it's lightness you can tell that a 2002 Honda NSX-R will destory any NSX from 1991-2004. Not even the mighty NSX Type S Zero stand a chance with a NSX-R around a tight track.

Basically, Type R are all performance. They upgrade the performance parts and are lighter than the base model.

Type S is just a step up with better peformance than base, and still keeping the same standard equipment.

OK, but what about this.

The new Honda Integra Type-R looks exactly (and probably is) the RSX here without the spoiler.

But the RSX Type-S is the sport model. So what's the difference. Does the stock Integra Type-R in Japan faster than the sport model of the RSX here?

Bingo. What we have here as the RSX, is the Integra in Japan still. Acura went to the alphabet names for all their cars here in the US. Like, we have the RL, but in Japan they still call it the Legend. We have TSX, they have Accord. And, what we call the Accord, which is bigger than the TSX, they actually call the Inspire.

Yes, the Type-R is always the faster version of Honda cars. With the NSX, like someone said, the Type-S0 was the fastest NSX at the time, because there was no Type-R. But, the new '02 and up Type-R is the fastest NSX now. Its the same with the RSX. They have an Integra Type-S and Type-R in Japan. The Type-S is the same as we have here, minus a few little regional options here and there. But, the Type-R is much like the old Integra Type-R we used to have here. It has no leather, no stereo, no moonroof, more engine work, better suspension, blah blah blah......you get the idea. The Type-S is a good daily car, the Type-R is a bit hardcore for the street, but much better performer, expecially on a track or auto-x.

Actually, there was a NSX Type R before the '02 which you already know about. But the one I saw had the '02 spoiler rather than the other Type R on GT3.

There are two years that NSX Type R's were made. First one in 1993, and the second and last one as of now 2002.

As I recall only one Type-R vehicle was ever sold in the US, and air-conditioning was optional. So unless you consider that 'all the luxuries', I think it's pretty much racing-spec here too. :)

and what does FQ mean (as in FQ-400)

It's been explained to me by several different sources to mean "****ing Quick". People claim that's not an official designation, but I remember from the outset of those cars that Mitsubishi was responsible for that rumor.

I've got you pegged as a Papillion guy, not an Omaha guy. You sure your location is accurate?

Nope, not even close to Papillion. I live in downtown Omaha. My fiance and I live up above Old Chicago in the Cornerstone Apts.

Still. You've got Sarpy County written all over you.

All over!

I want to move to Mullen - like 45mi northeast of Ogallala - but I can't convince my wife:

"Honey, let's move to the least-populated country in Nebraska!"
"No!"

At least she'll know where to look when I beat her up and flee.

Its Douglas county here, not Sarpy. I'm glad to see how you seem to be able to think you know everything about me by my words typed out on the internet. I live in Omaha now, but I moved here 2 years ago. I used to live in Phoenix. Could you sense the "Maricopa County" just flowing from me as well???? And, what the hell about beating your wife. If you're trying to say that people here are all wife-beaters, then so be it. I can't change that simple, narrow minded outlook. But, try living somewhere before you make such bold statements about people and the parts of the country where they live. there are people like that everywhere.

But you seem like one of them Sarpy County people. The whole 59 thing, you know.

Straight up. But Maricopa County's about the size of Canada, so I can sense that on everyone.

And, what the hell about beating your wife. If you're trying to say that people here are all wife-beaters, then so be it.

 Sarcasm! I think you've had too much of the Mini vs. Z4 thread.

HA HA, thats funny. I was just joking about all that as well. Its hard to type in the "Angry Al Pacino" voice and have people get it. :dopey: :dopey: I guess we both just need a little time to figure out what the other is talking about.
