Types of rain?

There are differing types of rain in the game, I am wondering how to tell the severity of the rain before you start a race so that you can pick the right tyres.

Example:

I enetered the B-Spec Dream car championship event at Monza, it was raining hard so you could see the drops bouncing on the ground so I fitted full wets and got trounced because all the others were on inters and going much quicker.
So next time it was the same so I put on inters and he spun off a lot and got trounced cos all the others were on wets.
For a third time it was raining but not visibly bouncing off the road so i put on inters and he shot ahead as the rest were on wets, they all pitted for inters after 1st lap so my lead was huge then on the 2nd last lap with a 1min 10 sec lead I went and made a coffee only to come back to him spinning all over the place after having pitted for slicks - It was still raining!!
the rest of the field still on inters shot past and he finished 7th!!

Anyone else experienced this, any good tips for judging rain severuty ?

It's always full rains in B-Spec
A-Spec is a different story, and is a problem with game physics.
If it's raining, I always start on full rains.
It's bit me in the arse several times.
The field will usually pit on the first lap.
Even though I'm on rains, and they are on slicks, I can't run at speed.
Have to tippy toe around the track even though I can run down the straight
at 200 mph, and come to a stop with dry weather stopping time.
What I watch for in B-Spec is spray coming off the tires in B-Spec.
Once it starts to decrease, you can go to slicks.
I have not driven in the rain in Arcade yet, so I'm not sure if the physics are different or not.

Trying to watch the weather before the start can be deceiving also .
It looks like it's raining, then you start and it's overcast but dry.
As I've said in other threads, it's my biggest complaint of the game,
seeing as I used to race motorcycles and am very familiar with how to ride
and set suspension up for rain.

What I've noticed in the dream car championship is that if the ford gt test car (the black one) has it's windscreen wipers on then put full wets on, if not go with slicks, I've been grinding this championship for a good while and have never needed the inters.

I wish there was more races in the rain especially in the FGT championship as these are the races I definately I can win
You drive with the aids on ?
If you drove the way you have to in this game, in real life, you would be lapped
quickly. It's a joke.

Well, no matter how hard it rains, if the track is short, the driving line will become dry much quicker than the rest of the track.

It was raining hard at Monza, so I put on rain tyres on my B-Spec driver. After a couple of laps, he pits in asking for inters. Then 1 lap later (still raining hard) I noticed that there is no spray coming from the back of the car, so I called him into the pits and put soft tyres on...

On A spec dream car level 24, when the menu for the each race comes up and it's raining, check the sky, if the sky is grey then I put on rain tyres, if the sky is blue (and it's still raining) I put on intermediates.

There are diffferent variables, sometimes the track is wet (after rain, but it's now stopped raining and the sun is out), so changing to intermediates or even slicks tyres will be an advantage.

Also, there are old threads detailing a problem in this game, where some people have found that soft slick tyres actually have more grip in the rain than full wet tyres. Search for prevous threads on this and you'll fnd out more.
