Tyre choice when tuning for driving fun

I often tune cars myself becuase I can't be bothered to always look up good tunes, I enjoy it (sometimes) and I'm not terrible at it. I don't generally do this for events, I just do it becuase I bought a cool car from the Legend dealer and I want to make it nicer to drive or more satisfying or whatever, so I don't care about PP. In pretty much every case I go for racing soft tyres and tune the suspension accordingly. But often if I check someone elses tunes, they will not have used racing soft tyres. Maybe they'll have gone for medium or hard, or even sports tyres.

What this makes me wonder is, if you don't care about PP, and you don't have tyre wear turned on, are any other other tyres ever better than RS for any reason?

RS tyres are fastest though not necessarily nicest to drive, especially on road cars. Once the car is at the limit, losing control can feel like a sudden unpredictable snap.

Sports tyres or even racing hards are much more progressive, and despite less grip, can feel easier to drive.

You'll likely find that a lightly tuned RWD sports car on sports mediums/softs with and LSD set to 15/20/5 will feel really smooth, fairly easy to drift, and rescue, and generally more fun or satisfying to drive.

It depends on the power to weight ratio. High powered cars I tend to use a high grip sports tire (SM - SS) or a light racing compound like a RH. Low to medium power vehicles I tend to use a CM up to a SM. I tend to have the most fun in the 550pp - 700pp races (mostly Custom Sophy Races). I have a TON of 550pp builds (on SH). Nearly as many as my 700pp collection (on RH). Although, I don't mess with 600pp quite as much (other than Custom Races) as it seems to me the 600pp class seems broken. Unless you have a high top speed vehicle, you will be left in the dust by the AI (who does). It makes for a narrow tuning window, and negates so many vehicle options. The 600pp Class is extremely overrated, in my opinion.

beautiful receipts brother brother

that LSD bit is just what we need in the community. Bet it makes the cars drive a little more realistic too.

You can be a bit more aggressive with the balance of the car with comfort or sports tyres, since grip loss is more gradual. So you can set the car up for oversteer and slide through the corners.

I normally set the LSD to 5 5 5 because I like the looseness of it, and only increase any of them to overcome issues, but then I've been on RS from the off. I'm going to experiement with this now. Thanks guys.

Just reading this about the tyres and others users feedback, makes me wanna test some of these in game later on. I am still having issues with my BMW m3 engine swapped '97. Maybe the car needs an LSD and better tyres to handle all the rambustical powaa!

Ive noticed something interesting with cars that have so much power they wheel spin, you need loads of grip on the rear to be able to use the power, but if you have equally as much grip on the front you can frequently oversteer, so then you need to reduce grip on teh front by using harder tyres and reducing front downforce. It felt counterintuitive to begin with but it does seem to work. I only use LSD settings as a last resort, but sometimes you do have to.
