Laguna Seca is the 200 mile race. For that track it's kinda edgy picking the right tire, since you need rubber with good grip but at the same time you can't waste a lot of time pitting to replace them every few laps.

I'd say your best bet is to try both the Medium and Soft sets to see which gets you around the track better. On average you should get about 15 laps out of the Medium and 11 or 12 out of the Softs, so you'll need to plan your pit stops. And don't let any of those tires get beyond orange, because if they go red you'll slide off every turn; that's a really bad thing since it's difficult to make up a lot of ground on that track.

What car you planning to run, Peter? That can also play a part in tire selection.

no need for medium tires, super soft in front and soft in rear works just fine. You'll probably pit every 13-14 laps depending on how much you slide around the rear of the car.

The endurance races are pretty damn easy, if you run a car similar to the cars you'll be racing agaist (NSX's like Mugen, Raybrig, Mobil, ect...Oreca Viper, GT-One, 300ZX-GTS, ect...) you'll end up lapping the the entire feild between 3 & 9 times. The prize cars in the Laguna Seca race are nice too, you'll either get a 3000GT LM (Baby blue or pearl white), or the Rally Celica (AWD w/same paint as the Castrol Supra). Cross your fingers for the pearl white 3000GT LM, really nice car.

use the super softs with either the pennzoil, 99 zexel, calsonic or the unisia jecs skylines. pit exactly 10 laps to you can still keep good times. i won by 3 laps.

Well, I used Escudo and didn't even change the tires, until I went out to get some fish fingers and my friend took over, when I didn't want him to, and he sucked so much he ended up in the pits.

I was winning by quite a few laps and the car coming second caught up and overtook him. Can you believe that. Winning by quite a few laps in an Escudo and the car coming second caught up. That's when I took the controller off him. :D

For the Laguna endurance I use the Daisin Silvia w/ soft tires and pit every 15 laps. This car is a little slower than the others so you get a little bit of competition.

if it's a fast car, i.e. Supra GT, Calsonic R34, etc. Super soft are good. If you are using something like a RWRX STi Ver.VI, RLancer EVO then soft is a bit better but supersoft will be good also.

On the 9th lap, pit in, 19th, pit in 29th, pit in.....and so on.......

My car for the race is a heavily tuned 4WD RUF. My driving style wears out tyres quite fast.
Time spent in pit stops has to be minimised, because last time I came second by 0.8 seconds. So harder tyres could really give me the edge. I also know that tyres with less grip can cost you time too.
Another thing: Nobody mentioned the professional tyres. How long do they last on endurance races?
Finally: I know there are better cars to use than the RUF, but don't go suggesting better ones. This thread is about tyres, endurance races and maybe suspension set-ups.

Yes, I know that, but how long do they last?
Also do you think its better to risk using tyres on red, or to take an extra pit stop?
By the way, I have actually completed this endurance race before, I'm just enjoying the challenge of doing it in my RUF.
Although it says its 4WD, it actually has a rear wheel bias.
At low speeds nearly all power is at the rear, and only at maximum revs does the front wheel get 40% of the power.
On my last attempt I did the fatal mistake of underestimating that easy looking turn near the end (Laguna Seca), on the ninth lap, and crashed out in 3rd. I used Super Soft, and because of the extra pit stop I required it stopped my attempts to get back in first place.

I really don't know how long they last, you'd be a fool to use them on an enduro anyways....you'll have to double your braking distance, drop 40mph+ off your cornering speeds, and you don't have straight line stability. The simulation tires alone will add a good 8-10seconds if not more, to your lap times.

With oversteering AWD cars, you can run SuperSoft/Soft's with no problem. You should be able to lap the feild at least 6 times...some cars more, a couple cars less. Look to lap every 12-14 laps.

Tip:

When you spin out and need to start from a dead stop, instead of starting in 1st gear, start in 2nd and once you get up to around 50mph, shift into 3rd and let the engine's revs climb. That way you'll cut your tire-smoking time by 1/2.
