All right, so I am looking at loading up Ubuntu and playing with it. Currently downloading the 64 bit version of it, should be downloaded when I get home... then I just need to find a CD to burn it to.

I am wondering what issues I should expect to face, and in wanting to load up Beryl and possibly some other tid bits. Drivers I can see being an issue, but thats just me going off of what I have seen on 64 bit windows.

I really like this look that can be found in this clip...

So, help a Linux noob get going! I have 50 gigs of un-partioned space to work with, and I plan to integrate the NTFS controls that will let Ubuntu see and read NTFS.

Gonna tell you this now before you waste a CD. Get the 32-bit. Though its probably too late. The 64-bit will have compatibility issues with all sorts of stuff and its really difficult to fix the problems. As for installing Ubuntu, feel free to contact me on MSN (emb_403@hotmail.com) or AIM (Ebiggs900). It should all go smoothly besides your video driver, which will require you to download Envy. Envy automates a somewhat long process of using ndiswrapper to use the Windows' binary driver. With envy you simply open the command line, type envy, then select the number corresponding to what brand of video card you have.

Beryl is now combined with Compiz and called "Compiz Fusion". Not sure if I can help you any with that since I haven't used it yet.

And if you don't know, www.ubuntuforums.org is going to be your best bet for finding fixes.

You should also make sure to create a home and swap partition, which can be done during the Ubuntu install. Contact me practically anytime this week for help.

Awesome! Hmm, so the 64-bit version is really that scary? =/ Guess no one wants to code drivers for it, since manufactures are being lazy for Windows 64 bit drivers even =/

I haven't burned anything yet, so no worries. I'll download the 32-bit version as well tonight, along with 3dMark06 (550 megs for a benchmark program? WTH!)

At the moment, I am getting Litestep to work for me (its being picky on some dll files, which is annoying the ever living crap because they do exist on the system)

I'll certainly ask you if I have questions. I have a friend that does alot in Linux, but I dun see him very often, but it does look like I'll have people to ask for help (Which I know I will need)

Haha, I have just tracked down some burnable CDs in the last couple days, but I haven't had the time to fiddle with the install yet, as well, I need to get stuff done in Visual Stuido.

Soon though, soon (next day or two) I will install it.
