I heard on the news that we have 300 political parties

(Including independants I assume)

Vote monster raving looney party!

Really? Whoa, 300 is a fair ammount. I have heard rumors that MAX POWER magazine are running too, can anyone confirm?

Once again, Famine gets right to the heart of the issue. I think that we really need, to (without a trace of irony) use Tony Blair's words. I mean, we need a "regime change".

It's relatively simple, but all politicians are self-serving liars who will stick to an idea for as long as it gives them benefit, and no more. None of the ones in prominence are concerned with actually doing any good for the country, they're just concerned with getting away with as much as possible.

To paraphrase Douglas Adams: Anyone who wants to be Prime Minister should on no account be allowed to do the job.

I'm concerned that the Labour policy of tax-and-spend is doing the country a lot of harm. Earlier in the thread, it was stated that Labour were "widely credited with rebuilding the economy after 18 years of Conservative government", but I would question whether that was due to the antics of either party or whether it was to do with a global economic shift. Although my family personally did very well out of public services this year (we had excellent ante natal care for my wife and premature baby), I feel that overall, I pay out a very great deal, and receive little in return.

In 2004, I paid somewhere in the region of £5,500 in Income Tax, £2,200 in Council Tax and £2,500 in National Insurance. This is in addition to the £800 in tax on motoring, plus the 17.5% in value-added tax. That's over £11,000.

And yet, my refuse collection is erratic. The street light outside my house fills the house with an orange glow, yet does not shine on my front door to show me the lock when I get home at night. Attempts to sweep the road make it more dirty. The gritters grit my estate when they can be bothered, but never my spur off the main drag (although they do the opposite spur). The local council acts to increase traffic congestion rather than decrease it. They waste millions on an undemocratic road tolls referendum, and the bus service is erratic at best. It takes 9 days to get an appointment to see a doctor who doesn't know/care about my ailment. EVERYTHING is more expensive in the UK, usually directly traceable to taxation, levy of duty, or over-regulation. The local schoolkids can lever four 'F' words into a ten word sentence, and we'll be forced to pay in the region of £35 for an identity card that we don't necessarily want.

Put simply, living in Britain is a curiously unfulfilling experience. I wonder how much better the country would be if we didn't waste billions hurling over-priced rockets at far off foreign fields, if we actually invested in public services rather than public servants. If we hadn't spent £400m building the monument to cretinosity that is the Scottish Parliament.

I wonder if it would be any better with another party in power. I doubt it could be any worse. It's time for the current lot to go.

Some of the more 'interesting' parties mentioned below. Sadly couldn't find sites for many.

Just shows the diversity of our election.

*prepares for flaming*

I'm almost ashamed of it, but I voted for the BNP because....

Despite what everyone thinks, the BNP are NOT racist. If you want to see a racist party, take a look at the national front, :yuck:

How exactly are the BNP not racist when they advocate repatriation?

Not only does this prove they are racist but also fundamentally stupid. The 'native' inhabitants of the UK are Celts. So fine, give back the country to the Celts but where do they think everybody else is going to return to?

And the leader of the BNP, Nick Griffin, used to be involved with the National Front. If I remember correctly he was a bit too right wing, even for the NF...

2 BNP supporters???
come on, own up. Who else voted for a party which previous posters have already exposed as being fundimentally and morally flawed?

OK - it's the big day today... so here is the official GTPlanet exit poll... ahem, not the most accurate of exit polls I think, but it's the best we can do here... On the strength of this poll, the Lib Dems are going to win by a landslide :odd: ...

The poll is anonymous, but discussion is more than welcome... 👍

That site was a crock. I tried it and got Green (I drive a 25mpg sports car and would like to see many wider roads) followed by Labour. I suspect because I agreed we SHOULD have gone to war in Iraq, but it didn't ask whether or not I disagreed with the load of horsecrap Blair came up with for reasons why.

yeh, it's hardly comprehensive... and I don't see how I came out so green as well...

I like the sound of the Lib Dems, but after taking that 'who should i vote for' test, it seems my preferences lie with the Tories followed closely by the UKIP lol. That's why i didn't vote, because i just don't really know enough about politics.

Although I didn't exactly agree with the Iraq issue I'm still going for Labour. The memories of 18 yrs of the Tories is still too painful and they haven't proved to me that they have changed a single spot. Howard is the bad apple at bottom of the barrel, remind me again how many times has he been rejected as the party leader since thatcher was toppled.

If the Tories win I look forward to 16% interest rates, high inflation, negative equity, Black Wednesday, Thursday and perhaps even Friday, and most of all 1 in 10 of the population unemployed. And before you say anything Famine ;) I've got something more tangible than your stats, my own two eyes, because seeing the dole queue's flowing into the street is believing mate.

Your actual outcome:

Labour -18
Conservative 7
Liberal Democrat 1
UKIP 9
Green 5
Plaid Cymru 16

You should vote: Plaid Cymru

Plaid Cymru is a left of centre party which supports higher marginal rates of taxation, the replacement of council tax by local income tax, increases to the minimum wage and higher pension rates. They are pro both the EU constitution and the Euro, support the ban on smoking in public places, consider hitting CO2 reduction targets to be very important and oppose top-up tuition fees. They took a very strong stance against the war in Iraq.
Some of that is isn't against what I said, just abit more extreme.

Plaid Cymru, go figure.

1 in 10 of the working population are unemplyed now. They're just on different lists.

Quick guess..... I think labour are going to win with lib dems 2nd and tories 3rd. I personally want the lib dems to win because i feel its time for a change but i think its unlikely because labour have got backing from everyone. they seem like the complete package

Quick update, labour won (expected) tories came 2nd (also no suprise), Lib Dem 3rd but with somthing like the biggest gain in 70 years for the party, Respect won some key seats, oh and Veritas were appaling.

Yay! Four (probably) more years of being taxed to buggery and lied to consistantly about everything! Hurrah!

What the **** is wrong with people?

Exactly what I thought. What on earth is wrong with people. I woke up at 2am last night, quickly turned on the T.V, and saw Labour way, way ahead. ****. :grumpy:

He he... 'Gorgeous' George (Galloway) gives Bliar a bloody nose in my constituency... I must admit, depsite some reservations, I voted for him... so did alot of my friends, and it's good to know that my vote really counted this time... Galloway won with a majority of less than 850... Still, was worth staying up until 4.30 am this morning just to see the look on Oona King's face (Labour)... she was not a happy camper...

edit: best quote of the night must go to the BBC's Jeremy Paxman... after the Lib Dems failed to unseat a prominent Tory, he says "So much for their 'decapitation' plan... that wasn't even a hair cut!" :D

People won't vote Conserv because of the great unemployment.
People won't vot Lib Dem cause they have little experience. So they crawl back to Labour.
