What, that time already?

The Time:
The weekend of the 25th and 26th of October

The Place:
'Chez Cubicle', Yawk-shhrr. (Sorted - thank you Milford Cubicle/Famine!)

If you're interested in joining us, go here!

Yes, it's time to start thinking about the organisational behemoth that is the next United Kingdom Gran Turismo Party... this being the tenth, and closing out the fifth (but hopefully not final?) year of this GRAN TURISMO 4 LAN racing event.

The bad news is that Famine has officially retired (for now) and this time, naive glutton for punishment I am (and having helped a bit with the Nono) I volunteered to be race co-ordinator. :D

The best news is that the venue is set - Milford Cubicle's new home is set to be LAN-equipped, and she has offered to be our gracious host. Yay, w00t, be5t evAH, and other intershizznitisms of goodness.

The good news is that I've started early, and I've already got a few things under the belt; one traditional Clio Enduro (track chosen), one completely new series, one-and-a-half Pick'n'mixes and a Handicap.

Suggestions for 'Dutch-style' events welcomed, they were an absolute hoot, and a day's racing them is definitely on the cards. You can see the idea from the 'Nono' thread, so get your thinking caps on, PM me, and I'll outline the testing method to assist you and I get them sorted out.

As for dates, well, tradition would suggest 25th/26th of October, but this will not be set for a while yet. If you would like to attend but have 'something important' to do that weekend (like what's more important than UKGTP?) then do say so and suggest an alternative.

Later on there'll be an equipment thread, and here is the thread dedicated to that new event I was talking about, but here is where we discuss if you're coming, where we're going, and when we're doing it.

laters,

Venari.

And since this is at my house, anyone who mentions my address - or even post town - outside of a PM will not only be banned from attending, but banned from existence with a big baseball bat with nails in it.

Famine is quite right. We live there with our daughter and I have family close by. I don't particularly want the entire internet knowing where that is.

To give you a little bit more of a clue, think North North Yorkshire. Somewhere near Middlesbrough. That's as much detail as I'm giving.

Down the long and winding road...

Sounds like fun, have we got a bank holiday around one of those weekends? If not, WHY NOT! National holiday for UKGTPs? Nope, seems not. Unless we hold it over Christmas!

I'm in.

*awaits daan to post his normal, "I might be available"

Is there nearby accomodation?
EDIT: your in yorkshire, thats me out

If I had a car I would be willing to go this time since I have the funds, but it's too far, so I'm out. :(

There's a pub about five minutes walk away which has rooms and as October is off peak, then there's a chance I may be able to get a deal. I need to look into it though.

There will be limited space at the house, however the majority of it is already spoken for. There's also an major airport about 20 miles away with pickup by myself or the lovely Famine being possible.

Am I that predictable...?

I thank I can safely say that I shall definitely be there if I'm invited. :D

I don't take up much room. A large-ish box would do fine.

Definitely Rhyl, folks... it's Rhyl... has to be Rhyl...

I'm not sure whether that's worse or not.

I was there for the summers of 1980 and 1981, so my recollection of Rhyl is probably no longer reliable, but I'm pretty sure my trips to Rhyl have had no lasting effect upon me whatsomonkeyteapottelephoneyorkshire.

I shall indeed be there, along with anyone who calls shotgun to a seat in the Merc (James? Nigel?). I'm quite happy to tent in the garden if need be.

And this time, you'll be travelling further than me.

Bwahahahaha.

Bummer! That's my claim to fame gone. I'll have to take a detour or something... :(

And, after fitting a Holden into my car last time, lets see if I can fit a Holden and Mars in it this time... :D

I'm glad you didn't say Mini. Otherwise I might need your race helmet to ensure I still have a skull.

Sounds good, Roo. Would probably get train to yours, Fleet has a station, doesn't it? Just after/before Basingstoke?

Hint is taken, Kendra :ouch: ;)

Airport is an interesting idea, will look at the possibilities of that, but by the time I've factored in train prices to Gatwick I think it'd cost the same as driving with Roo.

Also, come the Dixie I will be a trainee Chef, does this mean I have to do some cooking at the Dixie?

Not until you said that.

I haven't got any work outside the UK in October so this is looking good. Really enjoyed The Ocho so I need to get my ass along to this one.

Looks like a yes from me. I will make sure I have no severe illness this time. Of course I can't garentee until there is a specific date but I guess I am a likely.

Datewise, it doesn't really make a difference as any weekend is a goer with my new job etc.
Early Oct means it's going to be a little bit nicer for those who genuinely want to camp in the back garden (!), perhaps even aiming for late Sept? That does pose a 'six months' issue though, means the Dixie will be early, making more time between that and the 'Elf'.
S'up to you lot.

those who genuinely want to camp in the back garden (!)
Does that mean there will be folk mincing about your garden saying, "oooh, get you"?

And they'd better bring a hovering-sparrow-proof tent.

In Yorkshire? Not on your nellie!

I'm not too fussed on when it is. Though as I will be in full-time Education, maybe working it around the half-term? Just a thought to throw into the mix. It's a bugger there is no bank holiday weekend around that time (or between end of August and December in general!). Though the long journey does mean probably an earlyish finish on Sunday. I'm guessing it's about a 6-hour journey from Roo's. Which would mean finishing at about 3ish....But then it isn't being held at a public place, so I that might make things easier. And from what I remember Roo said he would go up the day before (obviously, we'd have to leave Roo's about 3 in the morning otherwise...), so we could get the majority of it set-up Friday night?

Edit: Though it'd be good if we don't do it on the last weekend of September, as finances allowing, I'm off to Pareé.

Just done a route planner (albeit using RAC, are they good or bad for this?). They reckon it's a 280 mile journey, 5hr 15 mins, 4hr 45 if traffic is good. Not as bad as I thought. I forget how far North Newark is!

Midlesbrough? Hmm, not unless it coincides with a uni open day I'm going to. In which case it'd have to be early October. Really early. Like September. The 12th.

Yes. We're not that backward. :p

You've got to bring shortbread, regardless. Which may or may not be consumed by the time we get there.

It depends what date it is. If it's Friday 31st October, then yes we can go up on Friday. Any other date and we'll have to go up on Saturday morning.

I had a play with Google maps, and that said 270 miles in 4hr 33mins from my house to Middlesbrough. Google's average speed on a motorway is 63mph, so with a bit of fiddling I reckon around 4 hours should be about right.

Edit: Now I've checked the map and got the right town, yes, it's nearer 280 miles and thus about 4hr 15mins plus stops.

I'll do Shortbread for the journey, I can always make more when we get there. Very easy to do. Okay, whether it's a Friday or a Saturday I can work around it. If it were a Friday, I'd do train, if it's a Saturday, I'd have to drag my Dad out of bed early!

The journey isn't as bad as I thought it might be. Certainly couldn't do that in the mini though! I'll have no kneecaps!

Well we could always leave a few weeks earlier and swing by Snetterton for the time attack round on the 12th and then onwards to the Nurburgring :sly:

Yes, get enough speed up around the Karussell, that will put us in low-Earth Orbit, then an eventy-million shot of nitrous will have us slingshotting around the moon to race on the SaturnRings...

... sorry, I weirded out for a moment there. Carry on.

If a date gets sorted out soon I will set about getting the days off, properly:p
