Unable to upload photos

Could someone tell me why it says invalid file when I try to upload, help would be appreciated.

Yeah, you can't upload images to the site server, you will need to upload them to a hosting site like photobucket, flickr, imageshack etc and link them to your posts.

Even though the browsing option gives it direct access to my own photos?

Yes; I think what you mean is that you can find the pictures on your computer to upload?
