Unique Multiplayer Gaming Problem!

Until recently i can't play some of my Multiplayer online games such as Counterstrike 1.6 and Call Of Duty 2.

Say for example i click the CODMP icon it loads up and a black screen appears then COD2 hangs forever. I have to press the Windows icon followed by CTRL+ALT+DEL to end the process for it to stop.

For CS 1.6, it loads up then the screen with two guys with guns appears and no writing shows on the bottom left corner i.e. find new game etc, this also seems to hang and i have to end the program using the same procedure that i did for COD2MP

I have tried re-installing both games, turning off the firewall and checking for viruses but none of that seems to help.

Any help would be much appreciated!

By the way, i can still play COD2 Single player without a problem.

Thanks for the suggestions TVR.

I changed my sound scheme yesterday and i believe that might have caused the hanging, changed it back now and all seems to be working fine, quite an odd cause for the problem i must say!

Don't you hate it when you get problems in games, even if you have a great PC. I think i fixed my random restarts for the time being.
 
It really is annoying having random problems. Some weeks back my laptop use to freeze randomly when i was playing online, then that problem vanished only to be replaced by windows hanging on the shutdown screen - apparently due to one of the start-up services - not sure which one as i just took all the services that weren't Microsoft out of the start-up!
