Hi All,

As an introduction, Im a non-wheel driver in the UK and am currently going through the game using free cars only. Im pretty much stuck in the middle of the IA group of races owing to a lack of appropriate cars.

I dont wish to know what any of the unlockable cars are as that tends to spoil the fun for me, but a few questions, if I may.

1) Are there any unlocks attached to the coffee break games. I currently don't have an electric car, but am wondering if Ill unlock one if I do all the fuel consumption coffee breaks. With the exception of the first cone game, Ive ignored the coffee breaks.
2) Has anybody, I mean ANYBODY, done Mission IA-1 without a wheel. Im still half a second off with this one and its driving me potty. Im guessing that of all the tracks, Suzuka is the track that has the biggest difference between a wheel time and a non-wheel time. If so, what settings? I dont think there is a combination of driver settings I haven't tried.

Thankfully I got the Cizeta today which means I can go back and have a shot at the Festival Italia - but the less said about driving the Red Bull at Goodwood, the better

Cheers and Happy New Year.

The Supra mission was driving me crazy as well, but I managed to do it (with DS3).
You're probably going to have a bad time trying to do the Super events with free cars as you never receive an LMP or Group C car.

1) No.

2) Yes,me. I use ds3 only. TCS 0, ABS 1, manual, and streering sensitivity 4?

Happy New Year :)

Oh thats annoying - on both counts - Im sure there would be a Prius somewhere!

I use the same driver settings as you, but with the sensitivity on 7. Did you find IA-1 harder than most or do I just suck at Suzuka?!

Yeah, Im starting to get that feeling. I at least want to get the IA missions and Goodwood 5 before I give up on this idea

Well I've completed the game, all gold except for Eco challenges and cone challenges. (DS3 only)

I think they're all hard for me. Im always careful not be overconfident on anything. Its my first gt in ps3. So i always practice in free run. Just buy Prius its cheap.

It's probably not that he doesn't want to spend credits, but the fact that he'd complete a game without spending them.

Its a number of reasons
1. I want to see if you can complete the game on free cars only. Though I think im resigned to the fact Im going to have to buy a kart at least.
2. Im pretty sure I bought the 20mil Jag in GT5 only to unlock it a week later.
3. I like to race the cars at factory spec first - I find it more challenging. In previous GT games Ive cheated myself by Overpowering cars to win events by a streak. Trying to avoid that this time around. For instance, I know I should put a new gearbox in the Challenger '70 but have resisted doing so this time around.

I know it sort of defeats the purpose of GT as a car collecting / tuning sim, but Im sure Ill get frustrated enough to buy a car soon. At the moment, I just want something to have a proper go at the Tour of Japan!

So you aren't even tuning cars?

Yes, and No.
I took some weight off the free Merc, but now ironically its a bit quick for the races I'm using it for. Kind of wish I hadnt (but I understand I can put it back on). I downgraded the tyres on the Elise Race Car to get it into the British Lightweights (but this was before I unlocked the Rocket). As for the Challenger - its probably the prime example of a car that needs a few tweaks, but Ive resisted in case something better comes along. Its not a favourite car of mine - none of the muscles are.

What I dont want to do is lump 100+pp of upgrades onto a car, changing it into a different feel of car. Not yet anyway. I know it sounds odd - but its oddly enjoyable.

I will have to do something soon as the S-licence is hidden underneath the GT World Championship and I just dont fancy that with my current garage.

The Lancer?
I have that. Like it a lot, but havent tried it in the Tour of Japan for fear it might be a bit outmatched. Will get my moneys worth out of the Cizeta first.

And, of course, get this bloody Supra around bloody Suzuka!

Yep. Maybe a little outmatched;). I think you have to overtake the last car to get the gold. If you overtake the last car that means you have a chance. That's how i got my gold. I tried it again today. Im only short of .2xx by overtaking the last car. My strategy is to use the last car as cushion to straighten my entry to the last apex so I wont loose much time braking and suffering understeer. In short, be aggressive in that last corner.

You do not want to know where to win which car, but due to the lack of cars that can be won, I still suggest you read this. You can win an electric car, but you need to buy some cars anyway, and the hyperlink I posted, has the winning cars in them as well as which car need to be buyed!

All licenses can be easily done without a wheel!! The only part where you might need a wheel is/are: the goodwood X2011 test and probably the 125 cc shifter kart GT area... but even these 2 are better to do with controller > GT5 vettel challenges!
